SatelliteGuys Charlie Chat Recap.

Before the chat started, Scott anounced that along with the 942 giveaway, a 921 would be given away (donated by a member) and three 25 dollar gift certificates to amazon.com.

Chat comes on air.

Charlie and Jim are there and two guest to their right.

Jim is talking about the what tv to me is promo. They are showing a picture of two stealth dishes. They look like they are part of the owner's roof. Charlie is commenting on the dishes.

Jim has a new hairstyle.

In the chat room, Scott reminds everyone of the 75 dollar gift cerficate to dishstore.net to anyone who gets through and mentions satelliteguys.us on the air.

Charlie Chat is showing a cheesy what tv to me is video of two older people talking about their love for dish network and how they never miss the Charlie Chat.

Jim welcomes Jim and Rosemary Legrotte to the chat. They where the ones in the video.

There are 107 in the satelliteguys.us chat room.

Jim and Charlie are still talking to Jim and Rosmary about what equipment they have and why they love Dish Network. Going on about how they have a DVR and how much they love it.

The winner of the first 25 dollar gift cerficate is gravy741.

Jim is asking Rosmary if she knows about the Club Dish promo. She says they stole one of the cable customers.

Going to Henry from the Cyber Cafe. Questions one is about channel 100 and why the customer does not get it. Channel 100 is not available on all recievers. Question two is shopping at sharper image from a dishnetwork reciever. Henry tells how to access the shopping. No more questions.

The three finalists for the 942 are Ahegedus, kresston, and gio164.

Scott announces their was 112 peices of candy in the candy jar.

Programming update from Eric Sahl, Vice Pres of Programming. 157 Local Markets. New locals are Twin Falls, ID and Rapid City. Talking about UFC 52. Talking about MLB extra innings. Cost is 169 or 56.33 times three payments. Makes a joke about offering MLB without steriods. Now showing a video for MLS Direct Kick for 69 bucks. Dish latino launches a new channel on 826.

Jim and Charlie will take questions now.

First question by email is any update to adding secondary DMAs if you live close to two cities. Legistation is still being worked out. FCC has written their report and they say they will be adding some extra channels this summer. Has to do with cities that are close together being able to receiver both sets of locals.

Second winner of the 25 dollar gift certificate is jstewart.

Second question by email is about national HD channels. Charlie says they will offer some cities next year after MPEG4 rollout. Charlie going on about wanting local stations to upgrade their power so we can pick up the signals with our rabbit ears.

Third question by phone is Charles and his question is adding anymore HD channels. Charlie starts talking about MPEG4. Don't expect anymore HD channels until MPEG4.

Look for more info on a September Charlie Chat.

Fourth question by phone from Arthur wants to know about leasing an HD DVR. Charlie says not to expect it for at least a couple of months. Wants more HD content before leasing the units.

Fifth question by email is looking for the National Geo Channel. Charlie says it is in the Top 180 package. Emailer could not find it in her guide. It is channel 186.

Now showing a video with the English guy and it has to do with Dish Movers program and credit card auto pay.

The winner of the 921 is StevenD.

Markdl from DBS talk is in the Satelliteguys chat room. Thanks for attending Mark.

Dennis Weaver is now the guests from Encore Westers.

Scott now will give away a 501 donated by another satelliteguy member. The winner is Firebird81.

Still talking to Dennis Weaver about his favorite western movie.

The thrid winner of the amazon gift certificate is ragnersjay99.

The winner of the 942 is Kresston. The amount of money in the jar was 7.74.

Charlie Chat is having triva questions A dozen DVDs from Starz is being given away. Due to the 942 winner being announced, I missed what the question was.

Ten minutes left in the Charlie Chat and they are still taking with Dennis Weaver.

More questions.

Caller Tim asks about the Voom Satellite. Charlie says more bandwith at 61.5. Says their might be some opportunity to get some of the Voom programming. It will have to be conveted to MPEG4. FCC still has to approve the transaction.

Caller Ron asks about MPEG4 and the extra bandwith. WIll it allow more local channels to be placed on the main 110 and 119 birds so the RVers can pick up more of their local channels. Charlie says the majority of locals will be on spot beams. Still must have an RV waiver to get the distant local channels. Can have up to two.

Seven minutes left in the Chat.

Email about the Pentagon channels. When will it be available on the 110 or 119 satellite. It will not be moving to the main birds. Must have four percent of bandwith from each satellite devoted to public interest.

Jim is announcing the winners of the Starz DVD package. Joe and Jerry are the winners.

Last question from an email. Where can she get a list of PPV movies showing each month. Answer. www.dishnetwork.com/ppv or channel 500.

Next month is Tech Forum on May 9th.

That wraps up the chat.

Charlie has lost his touch, Dish is no longer a leader. It's pretty lame when local cable companies offer more HD programming than Dish.

Dish seems more like cable than satellite. They have lost their roots of what they once were and what they stood for it seems in some ways.

That's why my cable install is scheduled for the 26th!

I forgot all about the Charlie Chat. Damn, I was right again! :no :(

Fourth question by phone from Arthur wants to know about leasing an HD DVR. Charlie says not to expect it for at least a couple of months. Wants more HD content before leasing the units.

So what is the sense in this...if there is no more HD content till Mpeg4, there is no point in waiting a couple months for more HD content before offering the lease? Do these guys even know what they are saying and/or doing?

They are limiting the number of HD receivers on purpose. After the MPEG4 channels are launched, you will be able to lease an MPEG4 receiver. They will not lease a heavily subsidised MPEG2 receiver only to have it go obsolete in the very near term.

Dish is playing it to limit their conversion cost when the MPEG2 receivers are no longer usefull.

you make a very good point on them limiting the mpeg2 recievers. nice signature. :D

Watching another one of those "Enzyte" Bob commercials, it struck me why there aren't more HD channels on Dish: They haven't paid to put in the HD commerical insertion hardware yet. E* can't get money from their advertisers to help subsidize the cost of carrying the HD channels if they can't run HD (or upconverted SD) commericals on ESPN-HD, HDNet, or TNT-HD.

No, he want's us to wait until he can charge us for them LIL, and then OTA tuners in all the E* boxes will go away. IMHO

That's what I think too. They will probably want $9.99 for them since they use more bandwidth.
