Thanks to help from folks on this forum who are more tech-savvy than I, I have replaced my old DP311 SD receivers with a single VIP222k dual tuner receiver. It's great to have access to the HD channels I have been paying for.
But there is a compromise. The coax feed to "TV2" is only monural/and it plugs right into my old stereio television's "antenna in" port. Sound is then output thru a "variable" audio out (on the TV) and then to the stereo receiver's audio in. Because the RCA/Audio on the TV out is "variable," the sound cannot be heard from my receiver's speakers unless you first turn up the sound on the TV (which is terrible). The sound comming out of the TV's speakers is also a few miliseconds out of phase with that coming out of the stereo receiver. The result is lousy sound that has an "echo" if listening to sound from both the TV and the stereo receiver.
Seems to me that the ideal solution (given my hardware) would be a "converter" that converts the sound and picture coming in on the coax from RG6 to RCA cable -- so I could run iboth sound and picture first into the receiver, and then out to the TV (for picture) and to my receiver's stero speakers for the ONLY source of sound. Essentially, I'd be bypassing the speakers on the TV.
But I've not found such a device.
I HAVE found a possible solution and I'd like some opinions as to whether it could work.
I'd run the coax in from the dish directly to a combo VCR/DVD player I have thru the "antenna in" port. From there, I'd run both sound and picture through an A/V out (RCA) set of ports which could send the video to the TV's video in (RCA) port and the receiver's audio in (also RCA) ports.
Rather than go thru trial and error, I'm hoping someone has done something similar and had success, but I can't find any old posts describing such a solution.
Any thoughts?
Happy Thanksgiving!
