Adventures in aiming..took down the dish from the shed roof and left the Jmount. Built a "mount" out of 2x6, 2x4 and a wooden post (will post pictures later today). Brought out the receiver, 15" LCD and took about 3 minutes to lock onto 72W (due South). Hitting 72w wasn’t a problem since I’ve been starring at the dish locked onto it for over a year now.

Spent another 5 minutes trying to get 30w (via usuals and manually) to no avail, got frustrated and dragged the dish by the pool to put it out of the way...sheer luck it then locked onto 30W 11884V @ 72%. Didn’t bother fine tuning it. Blind scanned 54 channels. Cubavision was airing some flick w/ Judi Dench. Watched for about 5 minutes and put everything away....happier than a pig in $***

Recap:
Build mount: 30 minutes
Bring down dish: 10 minutes
Re-install dish: 5 minutes
Set up TV/Receiver outside: 10 minutes
Aiming: 8 minutes
Watch TV: 5 minutes
Dissemble and put away: 25 minutes.

Bottom line: Work: 1.5 hours
TV Viewing: 5 minutes
finally successful = priceless

Cheers, K

Yay! I reacted the same when I relocated my dish a few months ago and got 30W! I'm afraid once the leaves come back on the trees in the next month, that I'll have to say good-bye for half the year again :( Anyway, 54 channels is basically what I get ITC on that one too...although, you should try scanning for the scrambled ones. There's one that's audio only from Spain, and one that is actually ITC ...TV Marti (those who listened to Radio Marti on shortwave will remember this is the U.S. service/propaganda broadcast to Cuba).

I got 30w once by setting up a temporary dish & TV, but it had to be about 100ft west of my dish farm to see over the trees to the east!

Pretty much like Kraven, I did it just to see if it was possible in my yard! :D

As promised..here are 2 pics of my "mount".. who knows, maybe it might give someone some ideas or use for a good laugh. in hindsight, I should have simply driven the main wooden post into the ground w/ a sledgehammer.

Right now the entire household is sick (except myself).. if everything works out, am going to try for those NBCs on 103W next weekend.

Now the next project should be a permanent fixed dish...

Next project is a BUD.. I have a 6FT WSI to install, but popular opinion is to stay away from it. However, I finally got a "i dont care" from the GF so now am shopping for an 8footer.

Cheers, K

For 30 W, the skew angle is paramount. If you do it right since the beggninnig, you are done. In terms of the best LNB pointing to the America continent, use 11884 V, 27,500, DBV-S. It is one of the strongest.

Kraven, I remember seen it in another forum, (DH.ca) you were trying to install that 6' dish you bought from WLS, how is it ended?
I finally have mine working well, took me a lot but now I have a lot of fun with it. I can send you pictures and help you wtih instructions if you want.
