The one I ordered has a battery pack and a battery door on the device. But I have no idea about availabilty or cost of a new one. I guess I cross that bridge when I get there.

Hello Gents
I received my meter, it works good, I was able to connect it to my mini-bud dish, scan 2 satellites it picked up more than few channels, picture is nice, sound is good, is not stereo but nice and clear.
Menus are small but I can read them, I am not sure if I can make them bigger still learning it, signal and quality bars are good it also displays the signals % next to the bars.
they claim the battery last 3 to 4 hours, well mine only lasted for about 2 1/2 h. I am not sure if the battery had a full charge, it has a battery indicator and it changes colors when the battery is about to die.
you can change and add transponders, add satellites and enter the names.
is just like a sat receiver box.
I have nothing to compare it to, I think is going to work well for me.
I will put it to the test next month when I set up my c-band dish.
Regards
Chewie

yes, it has blind scan, it has a meter that goes from 0 to 100% just like my receiver and displays the channels, tp's .
regards.

Got mine today. Came alot faster than I thought it would. I used it to scan 97 west. Scanned fast and seems to work great. I plugged in 125 and the strong transponders from the list here. Hoping the weather will get better so I can tune into to 125 on a new dish and see how that goes.

Hello Apprentice
My meter came really fast also it took about 6 days, glad you like, lets see if it holds up, there is satellite guide under tools, this is where you enter your lat, long and the satellite long, you press start and right under there is a display that provides information on the Sat long and one for the elevation and pictures of a sat dish.
I wounder if this will guide to find the true south.
try it let us know.
I am still a month ahead before I can try this feature.
please let us know.
Regards.

so far not too impressed with that part of it. put in my lat and long. then check my true south (97 w) and it was not too close to dishpointer. However it does scan channels nicely.

Mine arrived yesterday. But no one answered the door so I'll pick it up at the Post Office today. New Toys!!

I have been working with mine tonight. Getting to know it and find all the bells and whistles. I've been adding c-band birds to the memory and blind scanning them. Seems to be a good sensitive receiver. The screen is nice and bright and the case can be made into a hood over the screen. Nice meter with BER info also. The battery pack unplugs like a cordles phone battery. It didn't come with the (optional) car power cord. The menu is intuitive and easy to use. Haven't read the manual yet but it should be good for a few laughs.

What would one search for online to locate one of these little gems? I have a little paycheck coming and I think it's time to get one of these. I've sorta been following this and this just keeps looking better and better..

Thanks! :)

Edit: Found it.. Yep. I'm ordering one in the morning.

I also found the manual online as well. Ah the glory of Engrish.. Nothing like mangled up English to make my brain hurt more than it already does!

Aw what the heck.....

I went ahead and ordered one. Can't pay till morning but they didn't require instant payment so I'm ok.

The Engrish in the manual is less atrocious than what was in the "manual" for the other similar type meter/tuner. It was also more detailed than the other manual.

This one has buttons on the face for changing stuff on the lnb so that makes me think it was designed with people like us in mind, vs the other which just looks like a miniaturized tuner. This looks more like a tool than a toy.

The other ones had ~games~ built into them. HUH? Games?? No thanks.. THIS is not a tool, not with games built into it. Idiots.

So yeah, I compared apples and oranges, compared prices and weighed the value. This one was more expensive but appears to be the best value. Besides, you guys have given it a thumbs up so that cinched the deal.

 More tools........ This is getting scary......

That's the one I ordered and the guy I ordered from. Took 20 days to get it. I was deciding between this one and the one that folds with a 7" screen. But the games had me thinking like you. And this one was almost a copy of the Trimax 2200 ($499)

It was nice weather this morning, not to windy. I went up the ladder and started tuning the WSI 6' special with a 741 LNB. The sun was bright and the meter was hard to see but still doable. I'm glad this comes with a BER scale because that is what you need to use for the best tuning. And tuned in good. I'm watching all of my favorite Ku channels as well as c-band. This dish works pretty good. The meter is great. Easy to pack around and battery operated. It will even move the motor via DiSEqC. But pay attention to the menu. After you set up a new satellite and go to scan it, you have to select the satellite again on the scan page. I messed up a couple of times forgetting that. Overall I found the meter easy to use and I had good results.

Hello Magic
I am glad things work out for you, Regarding the meter, yes it is hard to see the display in the sun light but is doable, your dish looks good, I like the way you routed the coax cable maybe I will do that.
thanks for the input.
