I do not think that any new encoders would be able to improve their programs...

With their refusal to admit that there's a problem, I hope that the purple crap ISN'T the new encoders! I can just hear the conversation now... from the geniuses who brought us HD-Lite... "We have to reduce bandwidth somehow... Nobody should notice encoding errors at the edge of the picture, after all, it's in the overscan area..."
