3/13 Charlie Chat Recap

Thanks for the recap. In my 9 years as an E* sub, that had to have been one of the worst chats ever. I had a really good question which the operator couldn't answer.

Q: For those subscribers that have a 921/942 and all of the required hardware Dish 1000 or 61.5 and don't need an installer to come to the house, is Dish going to offer a ship only option?

A: Ummmmm. Really good question. Let me check. Ummm. We might, but it will be the same price as if an installer came out.

"Thank you for calling the Charlie Chat contest line. Your call will be answered in the order it was received. If a winner is announced before your call is answered, you will be disconnected." Good lord, I wish I had a dollar for everytime I heard that. Well, up until 10:15 when I heard a busy signal.:D It was hell trying to watch Jack Bauer and hold the phone just far away from my ear to hear the T.V.

I only wish

Damn, I wish I hadn't watched the CC and instead read the recap here. Pitiful waste of an hour plus of ones life:mad: . I haven't watched any in quite awhile and should have stuck to my gut feeling. Won't be watching anymore for sure. Gerry

9:35 PM – They reviewed their HD Dish’n it up plans. The $200 credit is applied to your bill once they receive your 921 or 942 that you’re trading in. Standard Dish’n DVR upgrades $98 w/installation for a Dual Tuner DVR, $49 for a single tuner DVR, no install needed.

I wonder if we could upgrade now and send the box back after 4-1-06 for the rebate?

I'm thinking the same myself. My 921 refuses to turn on in my basement (It gives me the coin, says downloading from satellite, and then .... nothing. No picture, menu button doesn't work, nada..... I was hoping to get it working since I had a couple episodes of the Shield and ER I hadn't watched . Oh well...

Is this a price increase for upgrading to a Daul Tuner DVR? According to the web site I
can upgrade to a Dual Tuner DVR for $49. When does this price increase take effect?

I am thinking about upgrading one of my 510s for a 522 (625?). I was going to wait until
the snow melts so they could trench in the additional satellite feed at the same time. If the
price is going up maybe I should upgrade my 510 now before the price increase.

No, it is not a price increase.

Right now the options are that you can "upgrade" to a dual tuner non-DVR (211) receiver for $49.

Or you can go to the dual tuner DVR (622) for $299.

Those who have 921s or 942s have the option of trading them in for a $200 credit against this upgrade after April 1.

The Charlie Chat used to be a discussion of future plans and lots of Q&A. Was much more interesting that way.

Ironically, while they were talking about how bad cable is, my 501 briefly lost signal several times (probably due to rain fade). Also today my 4 day old 921 died. Sadly, I'm not kidding.

And the next Charlie Chat will be in HD? Did I hear that right? Oh boy I'm excited -- not.

Why is this thread called the "3/10 Charlie Chat Recap" but its March 13th?

That 921 is a boat anchor....Get rid of it!
We got almost every one back that we sold...it's a POS....
My 501 blips out once in a while but I'm gonna stay with it till it dies...

Having tried a 921 for a few days before it died, I think I agree with you. Nothing but problems with it. I bought it used from a private party. Even though the warranty is not officially transferrable, Dish is sending me a replacement anyway. Will see how the replacement does. I'm not optimistic, but at least it will have some resale value and my current 921 is worthless (dead).

The 501, several years old now, continues to work very well. Its great to have it to fall back on!

I am asking about the SD receivers not the HD. Is the upgrade price for the
dual tuner SD DVR (522 or 625) going up to $99?
