222k and external HD

Anyone have any feedback/experience with the 222k recording onto an external hard drive? Is there a noticible difference between a genuine DVR and this unit, or do both record the same in terms of quality. Also, can the USB port power up the hard drive (portable ex. hard drive) or do i need a dedicated ex. harddrive w/ its own power supply?

Sorry, but the 222 does not support EHD.

I swore I read Dish would activate the EHD for a one time 40$ fee. Oh well, plan B then.

The 211k and 411 they will
The 222 they wont

Several years ago they said they were going to make it capable, but announced they could not not make if happen at least two years ago.

Adding external hdd capability to the 222k would make it too much like the 622/722/722k line without the $6 per month DVR fee.

There is no dish equivalent to the 211 with ehd so that is not so such a consideration there.
