What he said! That sound like your tv is not hdcp compliant and the having the hdmi connected is killing the video outputs. Connected it via component and I bet it goes away

IIRC Dish added a setting where the HDMI detects that the TV is off and automatically turns the receiver off.
I think there is a setting in the menus to disable this "feature" but I no longer have a 211k so I can't check.
That setting is to control certain VCRs through the A/V conection (starting and stopping) the recording by the timer on the 211.BINGO! You get the gold star Jim, I looked & found that setting under tv enhancements! Thank You!
The setting is for allowing recording to a external device, either on or off!
I appreciate all the comments on here from people willing to help!
I tried it out with my original settings using HDMI from recorder to TV, RCA cords from receiver to recorder, HDMI from receiver to TV & it works perfectly with the TV either on or off! Thanks again! That setting is to control certain VCRs through the A/V conection (starting and stopping) the recording by the timer on the 211.
Depends. If you want to keep the content beyond the life of your account, then DVD in SD (or a Hauppauge in HD) is the way to go.All well and good, but I would much prefer recording true HD on an EHD. Different strokes....
