211 with external hard drive

How do you manually change to the folder option?

I looked through the menus, and don't find anything other than grouping and list order.

Once you select grouping all future recordings of the same title or timer will be filed into separate folders.:)

Swapping EHD on ViP 211/211k

Thanks Matt.

To any person with experience using more than one EHD on a 211k.

What is the procedure to properly set up and swap to another EHD?
After the initial EHD formatting, does the receiver know that the EHD fee has previously been paid, and skip that part?

I've read where users swap drives by unplugging the EHD power and swap the USB cable to another drive, and plug in the power.
Is that all that needs to be done?

The 211k has a menu option to disconnect the EHD. Use that option, it will reboot the 211k back to its old self with no HDD. Disconnect the EHD and plug the other one into the USB port and the 211k will recognize it as an EHD. If it has been on another 211 or 211k on your account it will reboot and be usable, if it is a new drive it will format and set it up.

Overall the swap of drives on the 211/211k is a little bit klunkier than on the 612/622/722/722k because of the reboots, but it works otherwise.

Reboots are required because the OS, the guide data and the recordings are all on the EHD.

That's fine, but, on my 622/722 I can create folders and name them. I have one for "Music & Concerts", "Misc.", etc. If I'm following the threads correctly the 211 will make folders for duplicate items, but it seems to not have the same functionality of a 622/722. What am I missing here?
