2018 LG OLED's are bringing it

Yep, G and W. Sony has the A1E in 77 too

Basically the new red sub pixel is to help burn in and image retention. Not that it’s huge in my book. The 75-100 nits the 18 panels are brighter isn’t huge for specular highlights either. But it’s $9000!!! Lol.

REALLY hard to consider OLED at those prices, when Way More Than Good Enough LCDs are out there for a fraction of the price.

Sorry, but OLEDs are remaining niche. And might never live up to their potential.

And OLET technology is still out there.

Nine large is up in the DLP LASER projector price range (and perhaps more than some of us spent on our first new car).

So the "it" that LG is bringing this year is mostly lighter wallets.

LG series 8 OLEDs are awesome. The 3D LUT is not currently performing well and will add substantial artifacts to the image.

I look forward to his reply. But from what I’ve read, Sony gets better PQ from those LG panels using Sony circuitrythan LG does using LGcircuitry

I got this one a few months ago
LG OLED65C7P: C7 65 Inch Class OLED 4K HDR Smart TV | LG USA
The picture is amazing. The chip in it was the same as its big brother and was rated top last year so the price along with size was perfect for my needs replacing a 10 year old LCD.
Upgraded to a 7.1 THX cert receiver and just did the hopper 3 upgrade to go with it.
I'm more than satisfied....LG is the way to go with regards to the TV's lately.

Like many other things TV related, a lot of it comes down to your viewing environment. If you have little control over it, an OLED or cheap front projector perhaps aren't your best choices.

If crummy source material makes up much of what you watch, something that exhibits better video processing than LG seems to offer is desirable.

Well, wish me luck, I was sooooooo close to pulling the trigger on the 55" LG OLED55C8PUA over Black Friday when everyone had it at $1,699 that when it popped back up to $1,799, I figured I had my chance and blew it. Then I got an email from Crutchfield offering a Gift Card worth 10% of the purchase value in addition to the TV, so effectively $73 less than the Black Friday cost (factoring in the additional state tax.) I have four days to make a decision...

I've been watching the comparison videos that Vincent Teoh has been putting out (taking into account he's based in Europe) and it seems that the differences between the LG and Sony OLEDs based on the 2018 panels seem to be pretty minor, maybe noticeable to someone with the proper calibration gear. And the video (below) on his HDTVTest YouTube channel talking about the latest firmware that was just released for the 2018 LG OLED models fixed what would have been an annoyance to me, so I feel more comfortable ordering off-line and not from the local Blue Box store.

I have the C8 and love it. The fix your talking about was the hdr brightness fluctuations when changing scenes and yes it is fixed. I have the E7 which is great but the C8 takes it to another level.
Enjoy!

In previous years, one of the big advantages that Sony had was dealing with SD content. If you don't engage in that kind of self-flagellation, it probably isn't an issue, but if you do, you should certainly do some serious testing of representative content. Too often the reviewers get hung up in HD and UHD test patterns but that's not really representative of what we watch.

Well, I guess I'll find out. LG 55" C8 set is on its way...:D

Now I need to figure out what to do with all the extra room around the screen in my entertainment center. My old Samsung 2nd generation LED-backlit 55" LCD has huge bezels compared to sets produced in the last ten years. I guess I'll see what it looks like when I get it mounted and come up with some ideas.
