Has a ROY ever been traded in season?

Has a Rookie of the Year ever been traded mid-season? I think the closest thing to that would be when Manny got traded mid-season and finished fourth in the National League MVP race.

I was wondering the same thing. Let's say "Player X" is the next Red Sox ROY in, say 2025. Will people be saying he is the first Red Sox ROY since 2007 (Pedroia) or 2013 (Iglesias)? IOW, would the Red Sox or Tigers get "credit" for the award?

I would think the "Credit" would go to the Team he's currently with ... not that it really matters either way.

Curious, how many games did he play for the Sox, as in Starting I'm thinking.

He'll be starting ALL the games for the Tigers since he got here, I'm thinking he was splitting time with the Sox or they wouldn't be trading him.

At the end of the day it really doesn't matter, since it is an individual award. However, for "bookkeeping" purposes it does create an interesting dilemma. And his playing time had nothing to do why they traded him. They needed another starter, and got the best one that was available in Jake Peavy. Also, the Sox organization is very deep on the left side of the infield, and to get a pitcher of Peavy's status you have to give up something more than a marginal prospect.

Curoius, I don't know much about him other than what I've seen since he's been here, was he thier top SS prospect ?
Wasn't Bogarts their SS for the future (now) thus really not allowing a spot for Iggy, making it easier to trade in the big picture ?

Yes, but if the Red Sox had their way, they would have kept both of them (a lot of scouts say Bogaerts projects to be a 3B or even a corner OF). Iggy is far superior defensively, but Bogaerts is a top 5 prospect in all of MLB. But again, you have to give up something to get something, and the Sox reluctantly had to part with Iggy.

The Tigers will make good use of Iggy for many years to come, especially if it turns out that he hits .280 or more.

Amazingly, he's still hitting .320 at this point.

Did he play much in Boston this year, or is the .320 avg from his AAA stats ?

I remember when Willie McGee got traded from the Cardinals to the A's and ended up winning the NL batting title.

I remember when Willie McGee got waived one year and the Red Sox declined to claim him because, according to Lou Gorman, who was one piss poor GM, they didn't need him, but Oakland did need him and claimed him after that. Gorman used to screw up contracts because he didn't understand them. Gorman was GM when the Red Sox had paid speedster Jeff Stone $100,000 to be available for a September call-up, but when they needed him, they discovered that no one in their organization had his phone number or had any idea how to reach him, and he lost the means to continue to employ Mike Smithson because he didn't understand the consequences of not resigning him by a certain time. Gorman didn't want to hire an assistant GM because he didn't want to have to look over his shoulder at someone who could replace him if he got fired, so when the ownership pressured him to hire one, he hired a female lawyer for that job.

I remember that. If you combine his AL and NL average it was lower than Eddie Murray's. He was also in a hitting slump at the time and his average was on the decline which continued in the AL. If McGee stayed in the NL more than likely, Murray would have won the batting title. That would have been the first time a Dodger won the title since Tommy Davis in 1963.

Twelve days to go, and I still like my choices. IMO, the closest race will be AL ROY between Iglesias and Wil Myers.

I have to say, as much as I like Farrell, seeing Tito win the award would not disappoint me.
