The HE Tournament got underway last weekend at the top seeds campuses. Top seed New Hampshire was upset by eighth seed Vermont.

The scene now shifts to Boston for the semifinals tomorrow evening. The schedule............

Friday Semifinals @ TD Garden

(8) Vermont vs. (2) Boston College- 5:00 ET (NESN)
(4) Maine vs. (3) Boston University- 8:00 ET (NESN)

Saturday Championship Game @ TD Garden

Semifinal Winners- 8:00 ET (NESN)

I'll be attending Saturday night's Championship Game..............I'm hoping for a matchup of the last two National Champions (BU vs. BC)! :D

BC defeated Vermont 3-0 in the first semifinal.

Maine-BU starting in a few minutes...............

BTW, last I knew, Hockey East didn't need to send the two finalists to the Frozen Four. They send the winner and one other team that they select, with the theory being that there is no basis for saying that the team that the winner beat in the finals is necessarily better than the team they beat in the semis: they just beat them each on different nights.

A couple of decades or so ago, BU was the best team in the country but lost in the quarters to Providence. Providence pulled another upset in the semis before losing to BC in the finals. This put the selection committee in a hell of a spot, because you couldn't say that the loser of the finals hadn't proven itself to be better than BU, because it had, in fact, beaten them in that tournament, but they decided to have a playoff game between BU and Providence, which BU won, and BU went on to win the national title. I often wonder what the selection committee would have done if BU as the #8 seed had knocked off Providence as the #1 seed but eventually had lost to BC in the finals. I think they would have said, "Al right, BU! You've done it when it counted!" and sent them to the Frozen Four without a playoff game
