2009 US Open @ Bethpage-Black

I am trying to catch-up on today's play on the DVR. Yound Mr. Barnes had a 6-shot lead by that is already back down to 2. The kid must be feeling the pressure. I wonder if they're going to get 36-holes in today? Tiger and Phil are out of it so I am pulling for Weir or Duval. We shall see...

Anyone else watching?

I'm watching on and off.....I don't think they're getting 36 in today. I'm pulling for Duval. Nothing like a comeback story.

Barnes and Glover tied for the lead at -7, Mickleson -2, Tiger ends with a birdie to get to E. Barnes hit a terrible tee shot on #2 that he'll have to deal with tomorrow morning.

The PGA needs to get their head out of their ass. I just looked at the Monday schedule - you'd need a scorecard to keep up with where to find coverage of the 4th round and playoff if necessary.

Why not make it simple - ESPN on Thurs/Fri and let NBC run a US Open highlight program before Conan each night, then NBC on Sat/Sun/Mon and Tues if necessary?

Why should it be if the wind is blowing from the west, watch ESPN. When the wind is from the south, watch NBC. When it is sunny, watch ESPN, when it starts to rain, watch NBC, when Tiger lets one rip in the teebox, watch CNBC. :D

The schedule is confusing, but part of the reason is the NBC refuses to pre-empt the Today show so they let ESPN cover the golf early on and then NBC takes over after the Today show is over. To their credit, NBC did show wall to wall coverage over the weekend by moving up their coverage to the morning and sticking with the golf all day. Had this been the Masters on CBS they wouln't have come on the air until about 3:00 and no cable channel would have showed the earlier play either. You're lucky to see the leaders final 9 holes at Augusta. The USGA and NBC have been very flexible in dealing with the bad weather.

Yikes! What a free fall...wasn't he ranked in the top 2 a couple years ago? Anyway, it looks like I am going to have to set manual timers on my Tivo because the TV Listings still haven't been updated:

ESPN coverage from 9-11:30am
NBC coverage from 11:30am until it's over

It's been longer than that. He was #1 back in 1998 and fell off from there.

To NBC's credit, they did stick to an all day coverage yesterday. It was a marathon of a day and I pretty much caught all the action. I was nervous they were going to cut to "Merlin" at 8pm. Instead they stayed with Tiger on that Birdie put, a few minutes past 8pm. Thank you NBC! :up

Round 4, Take 5! The Open that Keeps on Giving!

Anyone else rooting for a tie today?

The field will tee off at 9am today. From what I hear, weather won't be a factor either. The chance for a tie is the reason why they are teeing off so early. In the event of a tie, they will play another 18 holes! If we can only be as lucky!

So far, the course has played relatively easy. Ironically, the rain and the softness of the greens it has created has been the cause. With no rain in the forecast, the greens may stiffen up as the day goes by and we may be treated to a challenging finish.

Underdogs, meet the people's choice........

Sure Lucas Glover and Ricky Barnes are tied at -7 (thru 1), but don't think for a second the -2 players including Phil Mickelson (thru 2) is out of the race. Lefty will have the crowd behind him. Only 1 group ahead of the "no-name" leaders, they will certainly be hearing the roars ahead of them. Nervousness will ensue. Can they carry the pressure for 16.5 more holes? Barnes for one will have a helluva shot out of that THICK fescue for his first shot of the day.

Tiger Woods (E) will need help to get back in it, mostly because he only has 11 holes remaining and is 7 strokes off the lead.

I will be putting my full support behind Phil. The storyline with him and his recently diagnosed wife would make for an emotional victory.

GO LEFTY!

what accounts for ESPN's afternoon window if there is a playoff? I can't believe NBC would refuse to air the first playoff holes because of stupid daytime soaps. Didn't NBC recently almost decide to cancel NBC daytime because of bad ratings?

I can see now the future of sports - WS innings 1-5 on TBS, 6 to the end on FOX or Streetball Finals 1st half on ABC and then moves to ESPN because ABC doesn't want to pre-empt 20/20, local news, and Kimmel, leaving the 2nd half/OT's on ESPN. ;)
