They did so against the Caps' any team that already can come back from a 2-0 deficit is NOT out of a series.
Obviously, Detroit is better than Washington, but the Caps are also a very outstanding team, so this team knows how to climb out of such a hole.
A series is not over until the final buzzer goes off.
I didn't say the series was over.
What I said is that Detroit is in good shape with a 2-0 lead, and what happens in the next two games will decide how the series ends up.
Detroit will be in the driver's seat if they get at least one win in Pittsburgh.
I never expected the Wings to win BOTH games at home due to the lack of recovery time and having 6 players out of the Hawks last game.
The lack of penalties is allowing there to be a very good flow to the game, at least so far.
What was your thought on the Malkin stick swinging incident, he landed an hard slach on the guys back, VERY intentional.
Wonder if the NHL is going to "Look the other Way" or not, this SHOULD be a suspension. Had it been during the season it would be at least a 5-10 gamer.
I'd like to see the Caps and a few other Eastern teams that are sooooo good , play in the Western and see how good they really are.
Pittsburgh definatly played better tonight, but still not enough.
The series will change in Pittsburgh with the Pens getting the last call on matchups and face off draws, if it doesn't change, this will be a quick series.

I will. The Pens IMO are being outplayed all over the ice. Detroit is the superior team.
They, the Pens, needed to win one in Detroit, that didn't happen.
At least they made it to the finals two years in a row, they are good and young enough to make it again, Detroit is getting older, maybe they will actually win one. I hope they wont be the Buffalo Bills of the NHL.
I just finished watching the game not too long ago. My impression:
- Excellent game once again by the Pens...they certainly had their opportunities this evening.
- Wings were on empty the entire 3rd period but they did what they needed to do.
- I predicted the Wings woud split the first two home games for the reasons Jimbo stated...being up 2-0 is a nice plus going into Pittsburgh.
- The Wings youngsters are the difference so far in this series.
- It will be nice to have a day to rest.
- The series is very competitive, but that will all change when (of shoud I say IF) Datsyuk returns to the lineup.

Series is a long way from being over ... Home ice is usually huge, I've seen many time when the home team in games 1 and 2 dominated and the roles were reversed when the changed arena's ...
Not saying this WILL happen, but I look for game 3 to be the bast so far.
I think the Wings can play MUCH better and the Pens NEED to play better.
The Pens must win game 3, if they don't, it's over.... Pens will probably win one game at least at home.
If the flow of the game changes when they go to Pittsburgh, they could come back 2-2 for game 5 and all the talk will be how the Pens are so good and the NBC guys will really be hard to take .... Some mentioned at the ESPN blog/forum that the NHL and the officials will help ??? the Pens when they get home.
I just hope it is a good game(s) and called fairly.
They defiantly let most everything go the first two games and there was great flow to the games, lets hope they don't change the rules when they get to Pittsburgh.
One other thing: the Wings are actually getting MUCH Younger, not older, with the play of Helm, Abdelker both 22.
Ericsson and Leino are only 25.
As is Juri Hudler, and Fillpulla whose been around for several years now.
Franzen is only 29 and Zetterburg is only 28.
Not as OLD as they use to be ....
IF/When Chellios retires that will drop the team age quite a bit as well.
Yes, a lot of the regulars are getting there or are there, but they have a pretty good influx of youth as well playing very well.

You know the old saying "Better lucky than good"? This is what it's like when you are lucky and good.
We are already in the driver's seat. A win in Pittsburgh, and the end of the series becomes a formality. The biggest problem right now for Pittsburgh is getting Zettyberg out of Crosby's jersey. The Wings have taken the "wonder boy" completely out of this series. That leaves the rest of the team to concentrate on Malkin, and apparently the frustration is starting to mount for him. (BTW the NHL rescinded the "instigator " call at the end of the game, so he won't be suspended for game 3. Is their anything else the NHL can do to help them win a cup?)
Unless Ozzie gets injured I don't see this series turning out any differently than last year.
For all the talk about our age, a lot people don't realize that the majority of the players on the ice are under 30. Ozzie and Lidstrom are the "old" guys making significant contributions. Helm, Ericcson, Applicator (Agitator, Abdicator whatever the hell his name is), all came up from the minors for the playoffs, (Helm did see ice time before the playoffs, man I love that kid, he always seems to be around the puck).
This team is not getting old anytime soon.

I fully expect for the Pens to win both games at their house. after that, the series really begins. Home Ice is the "X" factor here, and we have it. BUT, unless somebody steps up for the Pens besides Crosby and Malkin (the Wings are smothering those two), there is no way the Pens can win this series.
I predict game 2 to Detroit, game 4 to Pittsburgh then Detroit wins it at home in front of the 20,000 screaming fans..
