Pat Burrell's last swing of the bat in 2008 was a double against Tampa Bay in Game 5 of the World Series. Now, it appears, his first swing of the bat in 2009 will be as a member of those very same Rays.

Tampa Bay is close to signing Burrell to a two-year, $16 million contract, according to a source familiar with the negotiations.

Good. As a Mets fan get him out of Philly. He killed us when he was with the Phillies. So honestly, good riddance. One less person to worry about.

Yahoo.com is reporting that Manager Mike Scioscia and the Angels have agreed in principle to a contract extension through the 2012 season. Scioscia’s current deal, which is believed to pay him about $2 million a year, runs through 2009 and includes a club option for 2010.:up:up:up

Not exactly surprised.

Having the best record in baseball gets you more.

IMO, they wil clinch the AL West by Memorial Day (Mariners have a ton of rebuilding to do, Texas can't pitch, and Oakland isn't capable of putting up runs).

As long as the Angels can avoid the Red Sox in the playoffs, they can make it back to the World Series.

The Chicago Cubs have agreed to a three-year, $30 million contract with free-agent outfielder Milton Bradley, sources told ESPN on Monday.

Tampa Bay's other primary free-agent target, Jason Giambi, now is expected to rejoin the Oakland Athletics. The A's have made major progress in their negotiations with the first baseman, ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney reports.

Sources told Olney that Oakland could sign Giambi in the next few days to a one-year deal with an option for a second year.

Can't wait till he snaps and has to deal with Lou!!!! OH! I will pay top price for seats to that Main Event.:p:D

DeRo got outta Chicago just in time.

Yup. As a former Indian, I know Bradley is a clubhouse cancer. He's the anti-DeRosa. Milton Bradley's ancestors may have invented the ultimate team board games, but Milton himself is not a team player in any way.

And you're right. Woody and DeRosa got out of Chi-Town at just the right time!

I dunno if that was tongue-in-cheek or not, HD...but they weren't from the same families. Just to clear that up. Great analogy, though!

You are so so right. Big Cancer.

Now I wish. Yes wishing again. That Manny come home!!! Back to where it all started. :up

I think this was a big signing by the Rays that will go under the radar all winter. They needed a right handed power bat and they got one.

and provide air conditioning to the fans in the first few rows at the Trop when he swings and misses and doesn't hit one out. :D

Awesome. I still think Giambi has some gas left in that tank.

didn't the giambino have a good 2nd half last year? It seems like every time I turned around, there was a highlight clip of him jerking one out of the park.
