HI! I have installed quite a few c band systems over the years. A good friend and client just bought a sports bar with an old c band dish.
We just installed a bunch of Directv receivers for 99% of their viewing.
It turns out that his new bar is a Green Bay Packer fan hangout. Long story short I am trying to set him up for the preseason game against Denver on the 22nd . The packers.com website had the c band (Galaxy 16 Trasponder 14) location for the games and also listed other parameters. It is an HD signal from the channel 5 affiliate in Green Bay
I want to buy an FTA receiver this week that I can be sure will pick up the game?.
Anyone watch the last Packer game against the 49ers? All the rest of the games will be in the same format and satellite location (99 degrees)
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Is the existing system in a working condition with reciever and the owner knows how to use it?

You will need an HD receiver like Viewsat 9000, Pansat 9200, Coolsat 8100, SonicView 8000, Diamond 9000 and a "BUD Slave Kit"(google it).

Thanks! Yes the Houston Tracker 8 still works and has been used as recent as last year to watch analog backhauls. I suppose I should upgrade the LNB just to be sure it is good to go as well.
I did get a response from the local Green Bay channel's engineering dept. Here are his comments on requirements for their signal.

"Yes, all three of our pre-season games will be in a similar format. (different transponder on Galaxy 16, but same receiver settings).

We tested a ViewSat 9000 consumer unit, and our broadcast standards are evidently too high for this receiver to handle. We can see the video, but audio and video break up quite a bit.

We have found that the ViewSat’s Maximum Video Input Rate is 15. Our broadcast (and most other broadcast feeds) are 30 or higher. So you may want to check with your vendor and make sure your new receiver’s Input Rate can handle at least a 30. (We found a PanSat receiver online that looks like it does, but we have not found one to test with yet).

I hope this information is helpful, and can help you nab a receiver for under $1,000, as opposed to the $10,000 broadcast receiver we bought for the station.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to drop me a note.

Best regards, Tom"

I was hoping someone actually saw the Packer/49er game last week with an FTA. Sounds like the signal can be difficult to receive with some of the FTA products?

Check out Ricks Satellite Wild Feed and Backhaul Forums. They have posted most of the nfl feeds and they can tell you what they are using to view the feeds. For most I believe it is either Pansat, Coolsat, Quali or computer card HD receivers

I watched the packer game on gal 16 (99) saturday with my 3 meter BUD and my diamond 9000 HD FTA receiver. The diamond played both the audio and video great and looked better than channel 27's HD braodcast (Madison station also showing channel 5's production).

If this bar is just rigging up this setup for the next two games just get a diamond 9000 on ebay for 200 dollars, that guy ships fast UPS. You can use the old analogue receiver to move dish to 99 slot and flip the polarity, no need to get new lnb. I think there is a analog disney channel on 99 that you can use to tune in until the HD FTA box comes.

7.5 foot dish should work just fine.

Where in "packer nation" are you?
