I have seen sorta this post before, but I still can't find an answer. I guess I am a little different, because I don't want to record 2 channels at once. I have an HR20 upstairs and old school SD Tivo box in the bedroom. No need for recording that much stuff. In my basement I have a brand new HR21-100 with only 1 line coming in. I have the 5-LNB slimline dish. I set it up on the menu to have that dish (the 3rd option I believe), the multiswitch and a single line. The local channels come up perfect, in HD and everything. I ran the line coming in from the roof to the B-Band and then into Sat 1 on back of receiver. I can't get any channels over 200. They are grey, searching for signal. Directv CS said that maybe it just won't work with just 1 line. He had me set it to dual lines, even though I only had 1 line coming in. That didn't work either. This is what I get after setup:

Installation Status:
99 101 103 110 119
Odd (13V): X ? X N/A ?
Even (18V): X ? X ? ?

Alert: No signal available on Tuner 2. Check your installation and re-rest.

The plan I guess is to try to have an installer run another line from my dish, which I know will turn into an ordeal. The guy won't have a high enough ladder, etc.. Any other suggestions??? Please!! Like I said, I don't care if I can only record 1 channel at a time. Thanks.

That problem doesn't sound like it is related to having only one line connected.

How is the new DVR connected to your dish? There are 4 outputs from the dish and your HR 20 and Tivo each use 2. You can't use a splitter but need a WB68 multiswitch.

The OP only wants to use one line. This one line needs to be connected to input #1 and I believe the DVR needs to be powered up with only the one line for the system to recognize that there is only one line.

Is it possible that the initial install ran more than one line?

If not, then I rant against the installer, because IMO, any installation of a dish with four outputs should have all lines run regardless of current need.

Did you by any chance get the SWM dish which only has one line?
In this case, the BBC isn't needed.

Robertp,
Verify this :
This one line needs to be connected to input #1

On the back of your rec, you'll see a Sat 1 and a Sat 2, make sure your line is in Sat 1 and do a set up again so it recognizes the change.

I'm thinking there's a problem with the BBC (defective or improperly installed). The installation status tells us that the Ka satellites aren't available but that's all the OP is getting.

Self-installing is overrated.
