1.0m Primestar dish to 1.2m Primestar? Anyone done this, is there much difference to
most of the signals you get with the bigger dish? I have both, but never have compared the two. (the bigger dish is parked on the horses on AMC5, the other one Im not using right now)
thks

would love to see the results of them being tested. i plan on doing some primestar test later maybe mid summer and will be doing some lnb testing soon with a few folks here. the 1.2 should gain a few SQ points but how much , don't know , maybe the only improvment noticable would be on the weaker tp.

i do have a theory about my primestar 1m (and this will be the test later in the summer) is that its on a motor and i think the elictial will out preform it ( the 1m) on the motor. but thats what testing is for to find out.

good luck post us some results and everything.

You must be refering to the thread about the SG2100 slack problem. I have a 1 meter Promestar dish that was given to me a year ago when I was getting into the FTA hobby. The dish had a busted side that was made by a riding mower or small tractor and even tho the dish served its purpose well I vowed to find a bettter looking one. Last month I lucked up on a 1.2 Primstar dish and changed out the busted dish for this good dish. That is when I noticed he slack on my SG2100 arm.
As far as performance on Quality signal, I will know very soon when I get time to fix the slack problem and fine tune this dish.
I am very anxious about what my 5 foot solid metal will do when I get it set up usiing the v-box and FTA feedhorn. I got the pole up last month and had the 5 foot dish already on it. Soon I will hook the FTA system to it and let yall know how that go.

Mr FTAman thats what I was asking, didnt want to hijack your other thread. I'm itching to order one of these reg fta motors and put a primestar dish on it. I don't know if there would be a big diff between the 2 dishes, if the smaller one works just as well, it would prob be easier on a motor, mine gets moved around a lot since I love to chase newsfeeds. Guess I could just weigh both sizes of the primestar ovals without the metal mount on the back, to check the weight difference.

I cannot speak of the 1.2m dishes, but in a few days my new sg2100 will be here for a motorized 84e dish, that will make a 1m P* and a P* 84e both motorized, and although they will be positioned that they will see different parts of the arc I am sure I will find a satellite they both can see at the same time and I will tell y'all if the signals are better on one or the other...I have a few lnb's to try for each one too.

I started the mount for the 84e today. I have my plate cut and I'll be collecting my other hardware for the mount tomorrow. Now just to wait on FedEX to get my motor here. Hope they have plenty fresh horses available so that motor gets here pronto. :D

Turbosat, I did not use the original dish mounts on the Primestar dishes. I adopted a very good plan that Old John created to help adapt the dish to the
SG 2100 motor drive. There was a concern about the weight of the Primestar 1 and 1.2 meter dishes mounts and what Old John offered was the best plan! And I have excellent results! When I replaced the 1 meter with the 1.2 meter dish, all I did was match the 4 bolts of the dish (that goes to the metal mount) and tighten them up and do some fine adjusting. It was so windy, I managed to put the dish to where I can watch G10 until I have more time to really adjust it.
The SG 2100 hold up to a 1.3 meter dish, I think.

How does one go about fixing the slack problem ?

which one?

I remember a number of very good (long) threads on the subject, and I remember many of the designs.
Even came up with a simple design of my own, after being exposed to so many great ideas. ;)
However, searching for "Primestar mount" gives lots of hits, and "Old John" (and variations), gives nothing.
Can you narrow it down a bit? :)

Sure, Anole!
Do to SEARCH THE FORUM section and type in "SG2100 Primestar Dish" and enter...
Scroll until you find "Primestar Dish on SG2100?"
Go to Page 5 and start looking for DirtyShame threads. His pictures of his project is on Page 6.
"Old John" is his nickname. Sorry for the confusion.
John and I become friends and email each other all the time, sharing ideals on FTA stuff.
Anole, of all the other projects mentioned on this thread, DirtyShame is the best.
It takes a little patience and some fine tuning to get this right and it was worth it to me! :up

good memories

Here is the thread in question, quite a wonderful one, I might add.

I was more inspired by the work of 7720driver on page #8.

His post #75 is based on the above, and was the jumping off point for my own work.

That was one of the very best threads!
Lots of great brainstorming!

But do take some pictures and post them.
Every little new idea is another great nugget.
As soon as my dish shows up, I'll try to make up some drawings, and publish pictures, too.

Let us know how your setup goes and maybe I will adapt to yours. I am planning on selling FTA systems sometime in the future and I have been watching for used Primestar dishes that folks may want to get out of their yard. There's quite few of them around here.
