Hi all, decided to try and see how far east I could point my west wall mounted dish and needed to slap together an elevation gauge from stuff I had laying around the house. I wanted to see how much of a problem the roof overhang might be.

Scrape piece of wood, high visibility fishing line, lead sinker, camera tripod.

Jammed onto the bottom of the tripod with screws.

Three straws used to center the center one.

In use sighting the roof overhang. Looks like I'm just started to clip the wall side of the dish.

It was a fast and fun project.

satsig rule of thumb

Delta_Charlie,

I like the "Bore Sight" through the straws. You get two AttaBoys.

The red ray in attached picture kinda supports the www.satsig.com rule of thumb for offset dishes. View from the bottom of dish arm over the top of LNBF to see about where satellite is. But your method is better because you can sight from the East and West sides of the dish.
