My account service address is listed as New York City, but I'm not physically there, so I can't see the spotbeams.

Here is some information for your list that I can see:

ChannelTypeNetworkSatellite, Transponder
2SDWCBS (CBS)110, TP 01
4SDWNBC (NBC)110, TP 01
5SDWNYW (FOX)110, TP 01
7SDWABC (ABC)110, TP 01
9SDWWOR (My Network TV)110, TP 05
11SDWPIX (CW)110, TP 05

My guide also lists these channels, but I'm guessing that they are all on spotbeams since I don't receive any of them:

ChannelTypeNetworkSatellite, Transponder
13SDWNET (PBS)?
21SDWLIW (PBS)?
25SDWNYE (NYC Media)?
31SDWPXN (ION)?
39SDAZNY (Azteca america)?
41SDWXTV (Univision)?
42SDWZME (MeTV)?
47SDWNJU (Telemundo)?
48SDWRNN (ShopHQ)?
55SDWLNY?
58SDWNJB (PBS)?
63SDWMBC?
67SDWFUT (Unimas)?
68SDWFTY (FOX)?

I hope that this information has been helpful.

Regards

Thanks for posting that! That gives me some information on what is on 110, TP 01 - I had no channels there but it looks like those are the distant networks. WWOR and WPIX are both in the grandfathered superstation package, which I had those already in my list on TP 05. But that goes to show that they are using those feeds for the locals as well.

The other thing is you list all the channels in SD. It makes me wonder if Dish still only has the HD locals on Eastern Arc for New York City. Previously, the SD locals were on Western Arc, and HD were on Eastern Arc.

Very interesting!

ScubaGuy Question for you - can you try and tune into any of the channels you aren't in the spotbeam for? Say, channel 13 and let the error come up saying the receiver can't tune into the channel, then go to the screen where you can see the satellite/transponder. Does your receiver tell you what it is trying to tune to? I have a VIP211k, and when there is an error, I can go to the point dish screen and it will tell me what satellite/transponder I am attempting to tune to.

I'm happy to check on that for you, but right now I've got some other pressing things I need to attend to. I'll see what I can do as soon as I can.

Just to clean up from yesterday, my friend who gets Des Moines locals still has Dish, and confirmed to me that all 8 local channels are in HD and on 110, TP 20. My other friend who lives in Detroit dropped Dish and went to streaming so I don't have those. I am now out of friends who have Dish and live out of the area :)

THANK YOU for posting this. Last weekend I had to reaim a Dish that got partially taken down in a storm and I always used TP11 on 119 but had no signal. Saw this before hand so used TP12 on 119 to reaim the dish properly :)

Glad to help! Yeah, 119, TP 11 was a ConUS transponder prior to the transition, but now it is serving as a spotbeam.

I'm happy to check on that for you, but right now I've got some other pressing things I need to attend to. I'll see what I can do as soon as I can.
I took some time to check about this, but I don't know if I have discovered anything that will be of any value.

I have a Hopper 3 (I don't know if it matters, but on the front it also states "with Sling") that has feeds from 110, 119, and 72.

In order to try and be as accurate as possible, I first tuned in to channel 11 (which does have a signal), and then one-by-one I tried all of the channels on the previous list that weren't getting a signal, starting with 13, and going all the way through to 68 (after trying each one, I went back to channel 11 and waited for it to come in before going on to the next one).

I waited until the error message popped up, and then went to the Dish Diagnostics screen to see which satellite and transponder were listed. All of them first showed 110, TP 05 (which corresponds with channel 11), and then the information switches to 119, TP 15.

At first I just wrote that down and was prepared to move on to the next channel, when I noticed that the information had changed again, and subsequently started changing regularly. I tried a few more channels, and noticed that all of them did the same thing.

I then suspected that I was seeing a pattern, so I went back to the first one and started writing down all of the ones listed. After doing several channels, I realized that they indeed were all following the same pattern.

I then started timing how long they took on each one. They kept switching until they would get to 119, TP 20, so I thought that was where the pattern ended. However, with only two channels to go, I needed to walk off to do something, and when I came back, I noticed that they had started changing again.

For the last two channels, I wrote down the additional changes. The first time, the cycle ended with 72, TP 25. The last time, it ended with 110, TP 10 (I left it on that screen for over 15 minutes, so I feel pretty confident that it was done).

Some of the additional changes after 119, TP 20 would occasionally flash that they were locked, but I didn't make notes of which ones.

Thanks for trying it. I am thinking the Hopper does not work the same as the VIP211k when it comes to diagnostics. When you tune into a channel that you receive an error (like the spotbeam issue, a channel you don't subscribe to, etc), on the VIP211k you can hit 6-1-1 and get the transponder the channel is on but can't get to. It looks like the Hopper is scrolling through all the transponders it can see if the channel is on one of those.

Twin Falls, Pocatello and Idaho falls, Idaho are on 110w tp 31 with up to 80 db signal strength. Ceil 129w tp 8 only had 60 db signal. Lyngsat has not updated its info for this change. Echostar (Dish) 10 and 11 and T5 (Directv) in the 110w spot. No data for Echostar 23 at 109w. I believe Dish had a backup sat that was at a low orbit for a number of year. Maybe Echostar 23 is it at 109w?

Thanks for this info. Do you have Dish so you are able to see it for yourself, or have access to Dish so you can see that that is the transponder?

I do have Dish and get all the Twin Falls locals in HD. I saw the spot beam footprint for 110w tp 31 and the footprint covers all the tv stations listed above. I get a strong 80% /db signal from the tp 31 on my Hopper3s diag.

Thanks for all the replies. Unfortunately for me, I get back to my full time job starting tomorrow. I am teacher and summer break is over. I will still be checking for changes, but it won't be able to do it in the middle of the day like I could do over the summer - I will still make it a point to do a scan on Wednesdays, and if not Wednesday, definitely over the weekend.

Now that ESPN will be retiring the SEC Alternate feeds, I have a feeling that we will see channels 596 and 597 removed over the next couple of weeks.

For those of you interested, here is my spreadsheet on Google Docs of everything I have been recording. I took the main information from my Excel spreadsheet and put it on Google. However, not all Excel formulas copy to the cloud, so what you see are just the values. I have a column for the Eastern Arc - I know someone who has Eastern Arc and might be able to get those values in the future. Or I might try and setup my Eastern Arc dish for fun. Now that I think about it, that would have been a great summer project to have done :biggrin
