Anyone have detailed information on the $10 DISH Network Welcome Pack programming?

Welcome Pack Channels
DISH Network Satellite Channel Chart

If you purchase and install your own equipment is there any commitment?

Can any DISH Network receiver, including dual tuner models, be used with this package?

Does the Welcome Pack need two satellites or would 119° be enough for the limited 20 channel programming?

What is the total cost per month for the Welcome Pack without locals?

Welcome Pack is a well kept secret at DISH. They do not really advertise it on the website.

I believe you can get it without commitment, but I don't have all the details. You might study this link: DISH Network - Free For All Terms And Conditions - 1.888.825.2557

I looked at the channel chart here: http://www.dishchannelchart.digiblur.com/channel.pdf

Most of the channels are available on 119. The following are on 110: Bloomberg, Discovery Kids, and Hallmark. You would need a DISH 500 in order to receive these.

Alternately, if you live in the eastern half of the US, everything is available on 72.7 except ShopNBC (61.5) and Bloomberg (N/A). I believe you would need an MPEG-4 receiver for these and that could be a budget breaker.

When I signed up for the Welcome Pack there was no commitment but I was told that if I drop it I couldn't go back to it. At that time it wasn't the welcome pack so facts may have changed. You do get a lot more than 20 channels though because you get the Public Interest (PI) channels and any FREE VIEW channels so it really can be a good cheap package and if locals are available $14.99 isn't bad.

I have my aunt on my 3 rd account with Dish using a 501dvr that I bought from dishdepot.com and she has the welcome pack + locals +encore pack and 1 cent Cinemax. She pays around 21.50 a month with tax included, and gets about 20 national cable channels and her locals and the encore & cinemax premiums. She watches very little except, westerns and local news and Young & the Restless. It's a good deal for her since she doesn't want to pay that much for tv. Before we were paying 5.00 a month to not have a basic pack before we added locals and the encore pack. So this is only a few dollars more to actually receive a good mix of 20 national cable channels.

That is the best bang for the buck that you can get with that package, Welcome Pack for 9.99, locals for 5.00 , encore thematic for 4.99 and cinemax for a penny. The Family Package is not bad either at 19.99

I actually enjoy a lot of the PI channel programming, such as DOC 197, LINK 9410, and FSTV 9415; since it would cost me $6/month anyway to get only the PI channels, I have upgraded to the Latino Welcome Pack for only $3.99 more, and it's nice since I also get any "Free Preview" channels - and I have Penny Cinemax to boot. Plenty of stuff to watch and record. (I also have analog & digital cable - the satellite is mostly for channels that cable doesn't carry (PI, Spanish) or charges too much for (Cinemax).)

Welcome Pack staying at $9.99 with 2009 price increases

The Welcome Pack programming package will remain at $9.99 with the upcoming 2009 price increases.

I figured they would keep the 9.99 and 19.99 priced packages the same as they want to keep lower tiered packages to attract those on a budget.

I've never had so much trouble buying anything. None of the local stores I've tried will sell me the Welcome Pack. SO, finally after many attempts and thinking about it, it's off to the 800 number and no one there seems to know anything. Then we almost get it done and they say something about it going to $39 after six months................. I'm out of here.....

Backed out and it's over for now. We'll just suffer along with a bad pixel every once in awhile from the wonder DTV.

This is, unfortunately, the kinda crap you have to put up with to get these "wonderful" types of deals.

Most of the time, the drones(either at the local sat shops, or, even more sad, on Dish's 800 # FOR ORDERING) have no idea what the hell you are talking about, and just go into the stuff they understand.

Did you try talking to a supervisor, or asking if anyone above them knew about the FREE FOR ALL DEAL, and then signing up for just the $9.99 Welcome pack?

I would try at least one more time, and ask for someone who instantly knows what the Free for All deal is, and the Welcome Pack for $9.99(and the $5.00 for locals, if that interests you). Tell them that the package exists, and that is the only one you are interested in.

NOT THE CURRENT $9.99/month for Bronze 100 for 6 months, which is what they were trying to sell you.

It is also called the DISH ESSENTIAL PROGRAMMING PACKAGE. Try that and see if it rings any bells in their empty heads. And specifically ask for an ACCOUNT SPECIALIST when trying the 800 # and ordering. Don't even bother with the usual CSR.

If that does not work, try writing an e-mail stating what you want, specifically(leave nothing out) too ceo@dishnetwork.com This used to really help people with their quests to get Sh*t done. I don't know if it still works, but it could not hurt to try if the phone call does not help you.

everyone is calling for the dha24 promotion which is $9.99 for six months for the classic bronze 100. what you want is either the FlexTV promotion or the Free For All promotion. Tell them you don't want classic bronze 100 but that you want American Welcome Pack. any supervisor can help them find it if they don't know where its at in the computer so it doesn't require an account specialist to get it set up. CSRs have to learn things while on the job sometimes so just be patient and let the guy do his job of helping you.

Can you add HD and DVR to the Welcome Pack? For $29.99 per month, it isn't bad.

EDIT: Oh never mind. I see that HD can only be added to Classic Bronze of greater.

I Must Have been Lucky

A couple of months ago I heard of this Welcome Pack and "Googled" around and found that I liked the channel selection better than the Family Package. I own all of my equipment (a 311 and separate dish 300's for the 119 and 110 slots).
I use the dish mostly in the daytime as a supplement to my primary viewing on the antenna and Netflix. When I called the lady in India and asked for the American Welcome Pack she knew exactly what I wanted and it was switched within minutes, for a $5 downgrade fee.
