Already have those in 4K sourced from Amazon and they look pretty good. Will be nice to replace them with remuxes from the 4K Blu-rays. They should do a Pierce Brosnan collection too.

Were the masters made in the 1960s and 1970s really up to being HDRed or would that need to be fabricated?
There were new transfers made when they were released on Blu-Ray, those are what Amazon, Vudu, itunes, etc are using, up converted to 4K.

Warner is doing (finished last year) a new 4K remaster of Sean Connery's Bond movies, with HDR/DV grading, hopefully with Atmos, but I will settle for DTS Master 5.1.

I have already ordered the Steelbook editions.

up converted to 4K.
Upconverting is fairly pointless. I'm dubious that much useful could be had as a result of an upconvert from HD SDR to 4K HDR/WCG that you couldn't get with just adjusting the gamma and chroma on your display.

Doing a new transfer using all the information available on the master (such as it is) is the only real upgrade.

Tempted to order the non-steelbook edition but I think I will probably wait for the reviews. Reminds me of the first three Star Wars movies, I've lost track of how many versions I bought over the years.
The Steelbook collection includes 6 Steelbooks featuring unique art. Packaging includes Figure/replica/props/memorabilia. This is all housed in a Steelbook Library Case.

Know one had ever dreamed of Red back then!

Was the original "filming" done on FILM? Or maybe high quality (Red) digital, oh those many years ago?
Yes, 35mm, which has a digital equivalent of approximately 5.6K, or 5,600 x 3,620.

If you want to see how good an older movie looks in 4K, go purchase The Searchers 4K disc, it is amazing.

Yet without that 35mm or better transfer, you're left with upconversion and SDR as a starting point.
Which they are not doing, went back to the original film negative, did a brand new native 4K transfer.

Again, purchase the Searchers for how great a transfer can look when done correctly.
