Best time to switch to Dish?

Isn't it pathetic what it all came down to, paying $500 to people to start service? When they started out, it was like $499 for the equip. plus installation

    Look What I Found

It says early TVs "had small screens to accommodate limited signal resolution". Wasn't it always 525i? My take is that the screens were small (comparatively) simply because making them larger would have been too expensive for mass production at the time. Early TVs were very pricey as it was. But...

Position keeps changing with new actuator

The magnetic reed sensors worked quite well, especially considering how cheap they really were. I saw all of the more elaborate stuff from the early days- 10-turn pot, Hall effect, optical...

Position keeps changing with new actuator

Maybe needless to mention but of course the real "cadillacs" of C-band were the H to H (armless, self-contained gear drive) mounts. Most were pretty good, though of course some better than others. But pricey.

Position keeps changing with new actuator

That looks similar to a type I tried near my end of C-band. Actuators were the bane of my (& customers') existence. None would last over a bare few years, even Von Weise. Anyway, this one actually held up well operationally, but like the problem presented here, counts went off, and I'd never...

Fernando Valenzuela dies at 63: Dodgers legend was rookie sensation, became MLB's best Mexican-born player

I wonder if any kind of studies have been done of sports stars as to longevity. 63 is rather young in this day. I realize that there are some who have reached their 90s, but it seems to me that I've seen it over & over that they go in 50s & 60s. Particularly like from NFL.

What are the chances Directv will change their mind and want my rec. back

Could be they're just asking for paperless because it saves them $, and autopay because it reduces default cancellation risk. Without mandating 2 year stick.

    Dish problems

Definitely shouldn't be showing 119 if pointed east. Did you try running a new checkswitch?

Can't watch recordings day they are recorded

Isn't this like the original Hopper issue with it autorecording the broadcast nets, with auto-skip when viewing, and the nets went crazy over losing out on commercial viewing, and then the compromise was to only allow the autohopping like hours later or the next day. Presume viewers could always...

Pressing the rewind button jumps waaaaaaaayy back

My 722 sometimes makes an unexpectedly big skip, but usually only when I'm pushing it hard and going fwd & back repeatedly, but never any kind of leap like back to the start.

    Declination angle

41 is right at my latitude, and my old C-band memory is telling me it's 6 deg. To my thinking you don't really set the elevation first, but rather the declination. Then you point the dish south with the polar axis aligned straight N-S and mount locked on pole and bring the elevation to a...

Looks like It’s official Directv Buying Dish

New Chicago RSN carrying Bulls, Sox, Blackhawks. No deal yet with providers, so broadcasting free offair. Says wants to return to the days of free sports. Wonder if they'll give the signal free to providers...Chicago Sports Network launched same time NBC Sports Chicago went dark.

Looks like It’s official Directv Buying Dish

Lotteries have been called a tax on the bad at math. Patrons tend to be the poor and the wealthy, and the well-off seem to win more. Mostly the middle doesn't waste its already tightly-stretched budget, and those who do much more often end up joining the poor rather than the rich.

Looks like It’s official Directv Buying Dish

As do I, but we're definitely outliers. Most just go to the verizon or whatever and do a free phones deal. Charlie isn't going to get all that many takers for a low-rate BYOD service. Others have that market cornered already.

EchoStar/Dish raises doubts about 'ability to continue as a going concern'

Anyone who can tune to ESPN is "charged for it" including millions who never go there, for scores or anything else, and only have the channel because it's foisted on them in a package. It's by far the highest-cost "basic" channel to the provider, which of course passes it straight on to the...

DTV & DISHTV, Wife said she heard they are merging next week on CNBC today?

The traditional tactic has been to threaten to switch providers because the other guys will install free, er, actually pay you 100s to do so, and give a big monthly discount for a year or 2. Then if the incumbent won't give enough, you go ahead & switch, usually requiring a 2 year commit. Then...
