Uniden Supra - is it garbage?

Those VideoCipher modules have a battery in them that can leak and make a mess of the IRD, might want to look at that also.

    Hi, My name is Al

Cost may be a factor but have you considered Starlink internet? You will need to see a pretty good piece of sky, generally to the north. We have had it for going on a year now and it has been incredible with uptime at approximately 99.999%. We see speeds of 125-250 down, 10-20 up and pings in...

    Patient Channel 87w

Is Starlink an option for you? I've been online with them for about a month and the performance is incredible for someone living out in the middle of the woods. You do need a pretty good view to the "north" typically in the lower 48 states. Pics are the mount I fabricated to breed the...

Best deal on a decent 1.2 meter dish

Ah, I may have misunderstood the question, I didn't even consider the NPRM to be part of the deal. If that dish comes with the NPRM and the RX unit/feedhorn that's a steal!

Best deal on a decent 1.2 meter dish

I'm not sure what mount it has but it would almost certainly require some fabrication to breed it to a STAB-type H/H motor. If that is a stamped steel dish I believe a STAB 120 would handle it, if you can find one anymore. A fiberglass 1.2 meter will require adapting to a polar mount or an...

    8 ft dish

Since that dish is not a buttonhook-type you may not even really need that plate at the center, I have ran very similar dishes without them. That area of the dish is shaded by your feed so you are not losing any reflective area and all the bolts that hold the sections together provide plenty of...

Old round DirecTV dish -- salvagable for FTA use?

I wouldn't expect to a "better" LNB to make much difference, the signal types are different now and do require a bigger reflector. Some of the (quite inexpensive) LNBFs that are available now are superior to anything I was messing with back then, anyway Thought you might find it interesting...

Old round DirecTV dish -- salvagable for FTA use?

Advice to find best ku motorized system

Check out any Edward Jones facilities if you have them in your area. They transitioned from satellite to internet a few years ago and I still see the dishes at some of their locations, not being used. I have gotten 2 of the 1.8s (both free) this way. Stopped to inquire about another about 2...

    Chaparral Communications Shut Down Operations

Wow, hate to hear that, the end of an era. "Chaparral" was synonymous with "feedhorn" in my mind, they made some great stuff.

Anyone ever put a motor on a 90cm Channel Master

I wouldn't be surprised if you could push that HH90 10kg limit a little, maybe up to 25 pounds or even more.

Anyone ever put a motor on a 90cm Channel Master

I have not done exactly what you mentioned but a STAB HH120 would handle that dish with ease, just have to figure how to attach it. An HH90 is rated for 10 kg, it's also a great motor but the weight capacity might limit you, what is the weight of your 90cm CM?

New to FTA. Basics, Equipment, Costs?

I had forgotten about that. :clapping I had a dish set up on that mux for audio only in an outbuilding and would listen to one of the cable news channels for background noise.

New to FTA. Basics, Equipment, Costs?

One of my favorites on Ku was the "Hotel Mux", on 101W I believe. It had 10 or 12 major cable channels IIRC, with 2(?) of them A/V ITC all the time. The ITC A/V channels would change occasionally, but all of the channels audio was unscrambled, good stuff. That mux went away in the early 2010s...

Directv slimline dish... any use for it?

Here's what I did with one...8 years ago. DTV Slimline w/SatAv SL2 LNBF on SG-2100 motor Lots of changes since then but I would think it would be worthwhile to experiment with to see what you can get. IIRC there are a few threads on using these, probably more recent than my experiment.

I'll take "Name that satellite" for $500 please! HELP!

Do you have any connections that know anyone that works at (dispatcher is a good one), or drives for any of the local concrete plants? Lots of times, they will have a little mix left on a truck and there is not a good place to wash it out at the jobsite and they will take it back to the plant...

No, the GeoSat microHD will not do VCM. At least I was never able to get mine to work for it.

    Installing brackets

Think about how the signal is reflected off the dish...if the desired sats (97 & 91 in this example) are east of the center sat (103W), the LNBFs will be placed west of the center sat LNBF location.

Considering a new foray into FTA... what do I need?

I entered 97W and 103W into dishpointer and put you at Butler, MO. Going from 97 to 103 the elevation decreases 1 degree, azimuth moves 9.5 degrees to the west and skew increases about 7 degrees. You probably already knew all this but I just wanted to look at the numbers. Slow small...

Considering a new foray into FTA... what do I need?

I know you just went through this to get 97W but will ask again...Do you have an active transponder frequency entered for whatever satellite (103W) you are attempting to aim at? That is the key...as I said just above it doesn't matter what satellite designation you are seeing on your "Satellite...

Considering a new foray into FTA... what do I need?

Not only was it not looking for any frequency but the typical FTA receiver does not know what satellite it is looking at, even though it shows 97W (or any other sat) on the menu. As long as you have all the other settings correct you can be aimed at any satellite and it will pick up signals...
