Disney/ESPN Channels Removed from DIRECTV Sept 1st.

That's how the NFL maximizes their income. They could go back to CBS/Fox on Sunday and ABC on Monday night like the old days, but adding Sunday night and Thursday night games, splitting up playoff rights, etc. gets them more money. That money has always ultimately come from you, and for the NFL...

Disney/ESPN Channels Removed from DIRECTV Sept 1st.

Directv's message to customers was pretty self serving, but it is true that whoever they move to will inevitably face the same thing (I guess unless they go to Hulu Live TV since Disney owns that) A lot of Disney contracts are coming up in the next year or so. The thing is, if you go with a...

Disney/ESPN Channels Removed from DIRECTV Sept 1st.

Yeah the SEC and ACC are wholly owned by ESPN, of course they are going to back them in this fight. The Big Ten doesn't care, because they don't have any of their games on ESPN or ABC (unless it is a non conference game played at the away site)

    Nag Screens!

There are other things you could try that might "fool" the nag screen. If you know your way around your router and networking you could block internet access for the HR54 at the router, leaving it still connected via wifi - it just won't have internet. Another alternative if you don't know how...

New Genie Menus Coming in July

That's not Directv's fault, it is the Digital CP consortium that requires all devices that get firmware updates to include HDCP key revocations in those updates. Presumably the HDCP key that Denon AVR uses has been compromised and revoked. I would check Denon's support site to see if that AVR...

    DirecTV Genie Redesigned Menus

Someone on dbstalk is reporting that his HS17 started getting locals from an attached AM21 a week ago. He said he's located in Colorado, so I guess he was in the Denver DMA and thus one of the first people to get this new update. So I take it that was part of the update? I wonder what took them...

Problems with local channels using DirecTV and StarLink internet access

Most likely Directv is determining your location based on the location of the Starlink ground station your satellite link to them is going. That's not always going to be in your viewing area.

    Power inserter question

You want something like Sonora's PI6S for applications that require 22 KHz tone/no tone and 18v/13v voltage levels.

DIRECTV Transponder Map ~ Data 9/4/2024

I can't remember D9S's transponder plan but knowing how Directv did things I'm guessing it was designed to be capable of standing in for D7S at 119? If so maybe they could swap it with D8? They'd still have to shut down some of the MPEG2 markets at 119 but they'd be able to prevent Dish from...

DIRECTV Transponder Map ~ Data 9/4/2024

D9S has no national beams active, but it does have a bunch of national beam transponders it could light up on short notice. Of course those would be of little use unless it is possible to move it from inclined to standard orbit significantly more quickly than D8 could be moved from 119 to 101...

DIRECTV Transponder Map ~ Data 9/4/2024

We haven't even seen them shut off all the MPEG2 SD local markets. It appears all they're doing is getting rid of enough markets to drop spot beams and serve whatever is left using the 6 tpns that used to be spotbeams, similar to what they did at 119. Both for the same reason, the satellite...

DIRECTV Transponder Map ~ Data 9/4/2024

AFAIK they nudged 99/103 slightly inward to 99.25/102.75 to reduce potential interference with other Ka users at 97/105, but I figure if they wanted to use 101 they could move those satellites to 99/103 and it would work though perhaps at a slightly worse SNR. FWIW, Directv filed a couple...

DIRECTV Transponder Map ~ Data 9/4/2024

According to D15/D16's original documents it was designed to power a lot of transponders at once. I can't remember the number, but powering all 32 Ku tpns is well within its capability. It would still have the capacity to light up some of its Ka transponders, if they had any dishes out there...

DIRECTV Transponder Map ~ Data 9/4/2024

I wonder if the FCC is getting pressure from Dish to free up those transponder slots since Directv is no longer using them. They can provide a signal the US dishes can receive for a bit, then go back to an inclined orbit, then re-orient it again every time Dish complains. I mean honestly, the...

DIRECTV Transponder Map ~ Data 9/4/2024

After it happens please check back with us and let us know how many customers you had to upgrade because despite all the warnings from Directv they were still caught out by it. I'm sure I'm not the only one who is curious about how many SD customers remain!

    Real DirecTV Subscriber numbers

You think YTTV doesn't have any infrastructure costs? Directv's infrastructure costs don't scale with subscribers - it doesn't cost them anything to serve one additional customer. They are broadcasting a signal into your backyard whether or not you have a dish up to receive it. But even though...

    D11 outage 2/27/2024 (Resolved on 2/28)

They'd also have to replace all the HR34/H44/HR44 out there.

    D11 outage 2/27/2024 (Resolved on 2/28)

D11 & D12 have identical spot beam configurations, so worst case if one of them completely failed I suppose they could double up the channels on every beam. That would mean halving the bit rate for each channel, so quality would take a hit, but MPEG4 compressors have improved since those...

DIRECTV Transponder Map ~ Data 9/4/2024

Is ECUF still in use? Maybe if there are some LRFs that are dependent on it (i.e. they have fiber links only going there) and all the 101 markets that use it will soon be gone they will want to at least get rid of any 119 markets that use it as well so they can close ECUF to save a few bucks...

DIRECTV Transponder Map ~ Data 9/4/2024

But will they keep all five? Wouldn't it make more sense to get rid of them all, except for the NYC/LA channels also used for DNS? Then they could add more HD channels to 101. If they were going to keep SD markets beyond NYC and LA I guess Chicago as #3 in size might make sense, but Atlanta...

    DirecTV5 FCC filing

D5 is not providing service to Alaska/Hawaii, or anywhere else. It says they're doing this for "compliance with the Commission's geographic service rules". In other words, to keep Dish from trying to claim those 3 transponders for itself.

DIRECTV Transponder Map ~ Data 9/4/2024

Well Chicago is #3 in DMA size and Philly is #4 so that seems like it would be an odd place to make the cutoff of MPEG2 DMAs that will survive vs those that will be cut. WPHL-D2 looks like an Antenna TV subchannel, or at least that's what Wikipedia and rabbitears say. Maybe that's why it was...

Help Identifying Transponder Numbers and Transmit Frequencies on Spectrum Analyzer

Without a connection to a working LNB it can't do any sort of autoconfiguration to figure out it is an SL3, or download the NIT from the satellite. It probably uses some old copy from a dark corner of the firmware that hasn't been updated in a decade and that's why you saw 110/119.

Help Identifying Transponder Numbers and Transmit Frequencies on Spectrum Analyzer

I believe I read somewhere that the SL3 duplicates 101 where the 110/119 would be in an SL5.
