HDMI is digital, all other outputs are analog. Component out with progressive out is about the best you can do and a lot depends on how well your tv does the up
conversion.

A dvd player with hdmi will do the up conversion internaly and the better ones uses the faroudja chip

Short answer: no. Longer answer, there's not point in it because the signal is already degraded, converting to HDMI would just a be a different mechanism to carry a degraded signal, and the signal would degrade even further.

Besides, a decent upscaling DVD player doesn't have to break the bank. There are plenty out there for less that $100. check out http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volume_7_3/dvd-benchmark-introduction-9-2000.html for some tests to see what players work best. In any event, even a decent progressive scan DVD player that doesn't support HDMI or upscaling would most likely be a HUGE step up from that Koss.

Here's a question, would i be better of getting monster compontent cables or to get a upconvert dvd player with no monster cables?

What tv did you buy?
You may or may not know that many HDTV's will upconvert the incoming signal to the tv's native scan rate 720p or 1080i or 1080p.

Your TV may do a better job of upconverting your dvd's than your player.

make sure you can return the DVD player you buy, but since you are curently using a $30 dvd player anything will look as good or better than what you have now.
