Is the 625 a decent receiver?

I want to hook up a 2nd TV to my Dish. I currently have a 510 DVR which I love and an old 4900 (not in use). I know I could just get new switch, run a cable and use the 4900 but I'd really miss the DVR feature. I called Dish and they were offering 510s for $49 (installation included) and 625s for $69 (installation also included). I opted for the 625 because it's a dual tuner and the DVR charge is still only $5.98 DVR and a single $5 2nd receiver charge for this box. This will allow me to watch one channel and record another at the same time. Plus, if needed, record a 3rd channel on the 510.

So is the 625 a decent reliable receiver or should I cancel and look at something else?

The 625 is a GREAT receiver. It would be worth the extra $20 for the 625 over the 510 because you would save $5 a month on the additional outlet fee if left connected to a phone line, another $6 a month on the DVR fee (because you would only have one DVR instead of two if you kept the 510 and got another 510), you get name based recording and you can run the wire from the first or second tv output to as many other televisions in the house and turn the channels from those rooms. The monthly fee would be the same on the 625 as it would be for the 510. if you keep the phone line hooked up to get the $4.99 additional outlet fee waived. You would need to buy more remotes depending on how many rooms, if you wanted to take the remote with you to the other rooms, if you wanted to output tv one to many televisions to change in those rooms as well, etc. If you wanted to get the 625 in addition to the 510 then it would be $4.99 additional outlet fee and $6 DVR fee on the bill. The DVR fees are waived with America's Everything Package.

Ditto! Very solid receiver with nice features for SD. If you want HD, then the 622 is the right receiver for you.

Glad to know that the 625 is a good box. They're coming on Friday to install it.

I have an HD TV (36 inch Sony) but I'm not interested in getting HD until I upgrade it to a bigger w i d e s c r e e n flat panel someday.

When I bought my 510 for $79.95 about 2 years ago, I thought it was a purchase, not a lease. Has something changed since then?

They did say I had to agree to an 18 month commitment which I did. I've had dish for almost 6 years and have been mostly satisfied. I don't see me switching anytime soon.

Is there a problem (other than them owning it) with it being lease? How can I tell if my 510 is leased?

If you are happy with the 510, then you will be thrilled with the 625. The only other receiver to consider is the ViP 622, however its advantages would be the ability to decode HDTV signals to an HDTV or if you don't care about HD, a much larger harddrive allowing for something like 250 hours of SD content.
