Hello all,

I am new on these boards, and I have a question. OK, here it goes, I live in the Philadelphia area but because of the Comcast Evil Empire down here, D* considers my local regional sports networks to be that of New York. That is 100% fine with me, because I hate Philly sports. Now, on to my issue. Whe I go onto the D* site and put in my zip code, it comes up with the NY team/channels which is great, but it say SD only next to every one of them. However, when I out my cousins NYC zip code in some of the team.channels heav HD available next to them. My question is, If I am considered to be in the same region sports wise as him, why is HD available to him but not me? I know this is probably a stupid question, but thatks for the help anyway!

Not stupid.

You must remember that one issue does not particularly correlate to another.

So, you have local channels from Philadelphia but the RSN's from New York. And at least you consider yourself lucky.

DirecTV is only offering the RSN's from New York on the MPEG4 HD satellite to those that receive the New York local channels. I believe DirecTV is afraid to expand the size of the coverage because the HD RSN's are on a spot-beam satellite.

Trust me, as a part of the Baltimore market not far from the DC market, DirecTV only offers Comcast Sports Net Mid Atlantic to those subscribers in the DC market, but not the Baltimore market.

It may also be a zip code issue.
I am fighting the same problem, I am 500 ft from the Michigan line and across the line the Detroit HD signal comes in, but seeing I am in Ohio, different zip, my zip was not included in the teams areas.

I have plenty of signal, they just won't turn it on because of zip code, I guess.
I spent all the money to upgrade for this channel (FSN- Detroit) and cannot get it, even though D* told me ahead of time that I definatly WOUILD get the HD signal, I pay extra for the channel and get the SD fine.

So, at least you know your not alone in this instance ....

This is one of the most annoying implementations D* has done - it mystifies everyone. Search for NESN-HD for similar gripes - they're all legitimate.

My *hope* is that the RSN's all go CONUS next fall on the new birds, and eliminates this...
