Well, I turned on the Hopper to be greeted by the infamous black screen.

I did a red button reset (I'm sure it did as the EHD lights were flashing)
Then, I did a Power Cord reset.
Same thing.

When I turned the Joey's on, they said refresh is in progress, but they now work fine.

But Hopper still has black screen. I know that it's putting out a signal (that is black) because my Sony Bravia will tell me that there is no input signal.

So, how did you guys get out of it other than 2 hours of resets?

I've tried hitting every button on the remote to no avail. But again, Joey works and I can see the channels and the DVR menu so I know the Hopper is not DOA.

Make sure all tuners are free and try to go to a streaming channel and see if it loads then to a non-streaming channel
Or try to do a manual software download

Well, it was tough to do any of the above because the screen was BLACK and I couldn't even see the channel list or do a manual software load. How do you do any of that with a BLACK screen and you cannot see anything on the screen?

But I did three resets, to no avail. So I gave up and went to do some stuff in the basement. I got back about two hours later and turned it on again, and as if by magic, the HDMI connection worked.

But again, you try to do any of the above stuff without any display on the screen!

well, then, you have a different problem because the black screen issue that has been ongoing, you can still see the menus, the program guide, the program information, etc. You just don't get video from live TV.

Your problem has to be hardware related. Bad HDMI cable, HDMI inputs or the video drivers on the hopper possibly
