I am paying 162.48 per month for programming now, with just 1 hopper and nothing else. Apparently I was getting a $10 credit for 6 month and it ended today. I told the csr I was going to cancel my service if, then they gave $10 credit again. I have to say Directv is cheaper than, after all I am wrong.

After your initial savings are done Directv would cost you the same or more.

My father has UVERSE at his house he was paying $89 a month today he got his bill and it was $180 for the same programming.

Tv is getting way to expensive.

Simple solution. Cut down your programming.

Dish isn't insane. Your programming choices may be though. ;) And a $10 credit? Geesh, I would need about a $50 credit to stay at a price like that!

You must have AEP with tag that high. Don't think Directv will be much cheaper in the long run. They run neck and neck these days with respective packages.

 So, you were paying $152.48 per month before??

$155 or so according to his other posts.... Funny though, you make the programming decisions but DISH is insane. And yet in another post you say you asked Direct TV about whole home and it was $25 and said no to that price....

As others have said, how about some details? If the bill went up just $10, was the price somehow a surprise to you? $152 didn't catch your eye, but $162 was enough to put you over the edge?

You've clearly got a lot of programming to get to that level, your bill is hardly typical. The typical bill is around $80/month (or less). DirecTV has an average bill around (if i remember it right) $102/month. Obviously what programming is involved is critical in the process.

Without any discounts..

AT250 is $79.99
The four premiums (HBO/Max/Sho/Starz) are $45, or with the AT250, the become the mythical AEP at $124.99
DVR service fee for a Hopper is $12.

Do you have all premiums? Blockbuster at Home? Multisport?

Are you paying extra for HD? Is there an extra Hawaii charge for the Hawaii dish?

Disclaimer: As a Dish employee, my opinions are my own. They do not represent Dish in any way.

IMHO trying to determine if you're getting your moneys worth for satellite tv depends upon the amount of programming you watch. If you take advantage of every feature, and watch everything available, then most likely you're getting your moneys worth. In my case, I only have DISH because my kids like the large amount
of cartoons that are available. The only thing I watch on DISH is the Channel 5 News at Ten (KTLA). 99 percent of the time I watch FTA. So in my case (me personally), is DISH worth having? NO! DISH and DIRECTV are in business to make money. The fortune they have to pay for the programming they provide is getting out of control. IMHO, I think that soon we'll reach the price that the consumer isn't going to pay anymore. Then the premiums will have to adjust down accordingly if the satellite tv industry is going to stay in business.

AEP - 124.99
DVR fee - 12.00
Sports pack - 11.00
3 Superstation - 6.00
PBS National - 2.00

With directv the sports pack is included in the package and not being double dipped like dish, that's why I say it's cheaper.

He does make his choices. But, that doesn't mean that TV costs aren't insane. They are.
I dropped down to AT120 (not plus), the minimum package with the basic channels we want (AMC, IFC, FX, CC), plus BB@H(at half-price), HBO, SHO (both $5 off), and TVJapan. We pay around $130 with the equipment fees and "tax".

If I could get those 4 basic channels via a streaming device, I'd drop AT120. I'll probably drop BB, when it goes to full price.
HBO and SHO will only cost $3 more after the promo because of the two-premium bundle. So, we'll keep those. They have the best programming we watch most often, anyway.
TV Japan is pricey. But, it's always been that price. It hasn't gone up in countless years. Plus, it's HD now. But, we'd probably consider dropping that too, if it goes up, as we have a Slingbox in Japan.

If we lost an income, we'd definitely drop a lot of stuff. Our OTA antenna works great. And, there's Netflix and Amazon on the Roku.

I believe DTV doesn't offer Superstations. So, you'd lose that. OTOH, you'd save that $6. I don't know about PBS as an a la carte.

But your bill would be $8 less than it is now by losing programming, so I guess if by losing programming you would save, yes. And you conveniently left out equipment cost.

And I stand by my statement - we choose the programming, we can pay less, we can pay more. If DISH were clearly more expensive than most anyone, that might be more a reason to say they are insane. Clearly they are not generally more expensive, the opposite and at worst right in the same ballpark depending on your choices. I also stand by this is the same person who said no to Direct TV because of their cost in a thread. Same people go round and round with complaints, and don't even know they are getting a discount till it is gone, then complain.

Everybody has different needs for tv. Thankfully mine are easily satisfied with the welcome pack.
