Is this something I should be proud that I have, or does everyone have it by now and used to make me feel good? :)

Their website now says HD Free for 24 months (assuming when you sign a 2 year agreement), do these people then have to pay $10 starting month 25?

I wonder if SD will ever really go away besides maybe to avoid the added bandwidth it takes to have duplicate channels. Its not exactly like phasing out analog to go to digital.

If you have HD for Life it is now technically a perk new customers do not have. I'm just not convinced in two years or so there won't be something else to take the place of it. I don't see DISH routinely charging for HD with no way to waive it.

Don't worry..existing customers will eventually lose it too

You won't lose it. Juan is just trolling again.

Maybe we should have a vote if Juan should lose his Dish forum access for trolling. It's getting tiring. (And yes I know a lot of what he says is a joke).

CLARIFICATION PLEASE: I thought, from reading the numerous posts on the subject, that current customers with "HD for Life" would immediately be grandfathered for ONLY the first 2 years from "today". Then at the end of the two years. we would also have to pay the $10 per month. I am aware that 18 months from now we will all have to pay the new, higher fee for a 2nd Hopper. Perhaps I confused the two. Regardless, could someone post an unambiguous, clear statement if we current "HD for Life people (free HD) Dish policy relating to the new HD $10 per month after 24 months. All the fee changes are confusing. Thanks.

Anyone can have free HD by signing up for paperless billing and autopay.
No, not anybody. New customers can't, and current customers with free HD are grandfathered, but for how long? If you are a current customer and you currently don't have paperless billing and autopay, you can't get free HD by adding it, as far as I know.

Clarification: If you have HD for life at this moment, you have it for life. If you get it after the cut off, you get it for 2 years only, then you pay the $10 a month...

I went back to read the original postings on this, I guess it's just a matter of not remembering correctly. It was clear you are Grandfathered with it for the life of keeping your account if you subscribed before the date.

No New customers get free HD for the first 2 years, after that they will have to pay. Existing Free HD for life customers will continue to get Free HD for life as long as they are a Dish Customer in good standing.

If that is the case, then they would be guilty of "bait and switch" and "false advertising" which the FTC would not like very much. They love to go after the big guys over much less that that.

Dish will come out with something else or customers will just complain and get what they want as usual. Dish is the only company I know of that you can argue about something stupid and get so much for free - try this stuff with the power company or gas company!!

TV is a discretionary expense, versus something that is essential. Big difference

Here is how I see things happening. In a two years or very shortly there after Dish will shut off the standard def feeds because lets face it they are all but obsolete now. Stores quit selling Standard def tvs 6 years ago and I do not know anyone that even still has a standard def tv and it is not like I hang with rich folks. At this point high def service will just become the standard service and not something that is line item charged more for. They will then raise the cost of everyone's service and the free hd for life will be pointless because they are no longer making an additional charge for HD

Help determining proper equipment, please

I have some questions about the Hopper please
