Netflix Chief Product Officer: expect 4K streaming within a year or two

That seems overly optimistic. And given the likely minimal 4K penetration within that time frame, might be before its time and therefore a questionable investment.

They need to lead by getting more Canadian shows. They are getting better at that, though. Then they can get 4k.

The average person doesn't realize when they are watching compressed Hdtv now. They can give us all 4k and compress the crap out of it too lol. Let's see another new tv for 4k, another new dvd player......

They could probably be able to get decent 4k at 15-20mbit/sec using the new compression schemes. The question of course is if viewers will have the bandwidth and the data caps to take it.

You have to start somewhere (sometime). You either have to lead or follow the leader.

True, but timing matters. Look at webvan (groceries ordered online and delivered to your home). Great idea, excellent set up, but about a decade too early. Now vendors like Amazon are finally stocking food items and in the process of rolling out same day delivery.

Even a great idea can fail if it is implemented without consumers ready to make use of it.

It might be hard too do for those who have data caps on their home net connection.
