Dish to expand HD

Being able to stream shows via ethernet from one DVR to another would rule. I do hope the DLNA/UPNP support for DVRs isn't just a flash in the pan. Being able to stream shows around (locally within the house) would be great.

DISH Network to Expand HD Line-Up in 2008

100 National HD Channels, 100 HD Local Markets

ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Jan 7, 2008 (PrimeNewswire via COMTEX News Network) -- DISH Network(r) (Nasdaq:DISH) today announced plans to increase its national HD channel count from 76 to 100 in 2008. The company also plans to add local HD channels in 65 new markets, bringing its HD local market total to 100.

"The addition of new HD national and local channels is a testament to DISH Network's unwavering focus on providing the best HD offerings," said Eric Sahl, senior vice president of Programming for DISH Network. "We at DISH Network will continue to not only be a leader in the number of HD channels, but also in quality in value."

DISH Network plans to launch three satellites in 2008, providing the company additional bandwidth to maintain its reign as a top HD provider.

The company begins its HD launches with 11 local markets including: Austin, TX; Baltimore; Cleveland; Columbia, S.C.; Flint, Mich.; Greenville, S.C.; Huntsville, Ala.; Jackson, Miss.; Knoxville, Tenn.; Orlando, Fla.; and Richmond, Va. The addition of these markets brings DISH Network's local HD penetration to 80 percent of U.S. TV households.

In conjunction with the launch of new HD programming, DISH Network is offering more choices for HD customers, including HD packages as low as $10 per month for more than 20 of the most popular HD channels. New HD packages will be available beginning Feb. 1, 2008.

"DISH Network's HD programming packages, paired with the industry's best HD DVRs, give TV consumers the complete TV viewing experience and another powerful reason to switch to DISH Network -- if they haven't already," Sahl said.

For more information about DISH Network's HD offerings or DVR technology, call 1-800-333-DISH (3474), visit DISH Network -- Home, or visit your local DISH Network retailer.

Looks like Dish is going to "tier" their HD offerings....I would imagine if anyone wants the package they have available for $20 per month now, to act. My guess is the channels now available at that price will be split up. Customers may have to choose to either spnd more money or do with less HD content..I would imagine current HD customers would be grandfathered in..I could be wrong though

Like saying We'll be all HD some day! Give me facts, this is just to put a finger in the dike to slow people thinking of defecting with DirecTV adding so mcuh HD lately.

Translatation
"Don't run to DirecTV yet, we'll have more HD later this year when we get our new birds up..."
and
"PS sorry for the delays, but Charlie has had his head up his ass trying to splot the company up and sell part of it off.."

Charlie is waiting to launch his satellites taking up valuable garage space at the launch companies.

If you have a better way to get them up there, let's hear it.. :)

So much for quality in picture. I wish my eyes weren't 20/20 because there is nothing better on the market than Dish Network's 622/722. Sorry Charlie, but your visually enabled customers can't take yet another year of DishHD-Lite.:(

Off to FiOS I go...three days and counting.

I really hoped you played with FIOSTV before you made the decision. You may not like it. 2 of my friends came back after a few months. I never switched to FIOSTV just the internet.

Gotta agree, Dish'll be fine. I just signed up - I've four TV's, one of 'em HD, all have DVR capability... This by itself is too cool.

Hope you aren't in a contract. Other than that, give Dish a spin and see how you feel in a few months. I loved it for a while, but things took a turn for the worse last summer when they stopped adding channels and announced no real plans. Good luck.

I've watched some Voom, was hopeful the Monster Channel would be better.

Sorry man, you really missed the ride. Monsters HD was awesome up until about Halloween or early November of 2007. Now they play like 2 movies a day in rotation all day. It was never that way before. I think they are playing Nightmare on Elm Street 3 a total of 75 airings this month. Such a shame.

This phrase is already cult :)

It seems to be true for the most part though.. When D* didn't have crap for HD, people came to E*. People coming from cable (after their ridiculously low promo deals) will pick one of the two.

I think that's the plus and the minus. The customer base roams around and the customer base roams around.

Since last summer, they have added the Discovery Channels, History, Big Ten, NHL, NBA, TBS. So I wouldn't say they stopped adding channels.

They just haven't added SciFi.

I'm not saying Directv hasn't added more than Dish. People make statements that Dish hasn't added any channels, which isn't true.

New orleans, promised in 2006 when i signed up, still not on the list.

Jackson, Ms.????? Evidently Dish is not going by market rankings, or city population.

If Jackson, MS is lit up on 61.5 then New Orleans will be also. Take a look at the map that posted in one of the CES threads here. You can see a dot for Jackson, MS and the dot is on the Slidell area which was meant for New Orleans.

Since i only get 110,119, and 129 i guess dish will have to come install a different dish.Which one gets all 4 sats ?
