I have been reading forum after forum and I see alot of people bashing the techs on these HR20 recievers and I must say that YES some arent that good and all BUT when it comes to this particular reciever 9 times out of 10 D* is wasting my time and yoru time for us comming out there BECAUSE its usually the reciever and D* WILL NOT let us change it or anything else. SOOOOO is what i have been seein gin message boards is that the tech is lazy ans stupid and blah blah blah, come on people this is a box that has NUMEROUS problems and D* is working on it soooooo lighten up on the techs SHEEEEEESH

Let me guess, you are a tech?
 
Nah he just wants a HR20 to work. You know I have a contact inside D* that has a beta HR20 and a production unit and claims they have no software problems. Gee who do we believe the technician that says they are defective or the executive that could actually do something about quality?
 
im a tech and have been for years and of all receivers gone bad its been the hr20. everything from harddrive failure to not activating. but like every receiver out there and any new product there are going to be bugs. so i would have to agree with the first post.
 
well it sucks when you have a receiver out of the box that goes to crap on you in front of the customer. its somewhat embarrassing, especially when the only way to replace it is when dtv sends out another one. alot of installation companies dont give more than what the installer needs in case he runs into this issue. hell i had 2 out of 3 go bad on me in one day. everytime i take out a hr20 out in the field, i pray that its good.
 
Yep i am a tech and I deal with DTV on a everysay basis and let me tell ya between and DTV and some of the customers we have a very stressful job and I bet not very many people could do what we do on a day to day basis

My job is stressfull too, but I realized a while back that the customer is not upset with you, they are upset with the situation. I also realized that complaining about it just makes it worse, so I don't complain about it, I smile, move on, and thank the good lord I have a job. :p

If you don't like your job, look for another one, I am sure somebody out there would love to have your job and be gratefull for it, just remember, if it weren't for broken equipment and unhappy customers, you wouldn't even have a job.:)

You are correct, of course. However, look at it from this customer's point of view. I had an AT9 installed in June. The tech told me he had installed dozens of them. It was a pole mount, with the pole already installed. He didn't tighten the mounting screw enough, so it went out of alignment. No big deal, I fixed it myself. He mounted the dual junction block vertically instead of horizontally. No big deal, I fixed that, too. He told me that it didn't matter that the 99 sat doesn't show up in the signal strength setup since it carries the international channels! He didn't install a ground wire. No big deal, after escalating the matter, Halsted sent a competent tech out and he installed the ground. So you see, there are some good techs and some that haven't got a clue. Lucky for me, I know more than the one that did my install and was able to correct his mistakes. Most customers are not so lucky and end up with a multitude of problems.

I don't know about all that but didn't you supply your own pole?, and ground blocks and multi switches shouldn't be installed horizontally, but vertical to prevent water seepage.

Yes, I supplied the pole, but the tech didn't tighten the bolt enough to keep the dish in place. That was not my fault. The ground blocks are supposed to be installed horizontally so that water will not enter them. The attached picture shows what I mean.

thats vertical to me. as far as the ground, where did he ground to, i hope he didnt put in a ground rod cause that wont do u any good when its not backbonded with #4 copper bare to the existing house ground. as far as ur dish being realigned, he shouldve used a self tap screw so that wouldnt happen.

I call it horizontal because that's how the wires are aligned. Either way you refer to it, the original install was incorrect. The ground is #10 wire to the water service inside the house. That is the code in CT.

Didn't you say that pole was too small?
If you bought the pole that was too small you have some part in the blame.

That's vertical to me also.

If you bought the pole that was too small you have some part in the blame.

No, I never said the pole was too small. I said the tech didn't tighten the mounting screw enough which allowed the dish to go out of alignment. The pole is a 2" fence pole.

i have to believe the tech, he's the one that works with the product everyday,
the executive is there to cover up the problem everyday.
