Xtra + premium add on vs Premier

Currently subscribed to the Premier package, really dont watch the sports pack that is included, I've compared the channel lineups and found that other than the premium channels from 500 to 600 ( less the adult stuff) there is nothing else that i want the in the premier pack that xtra doesn't have. I can't seem to compare pricing on my phone, mobile site isn't friendly and no PC access.. So my question is, do i save money by switching to Xtra and adding on the HBO showtime Starz Cinemax ? Or am I better to keep premier.

According to my calculations (if I'm wrong please correct me), and this is for just one box, Premier is $150.99/mo. The Xtra is $87.99/mo, and all premiums (minus sports pack), according to D*'s website, is $53.99/mo. So, in total, that's $141.98/mo. Not to mention you could probably knock that down even further by seeing if there are any promos on any of the Premium packages. That's actually not a bad idea, especially if, you don't watch the sports pack.

The sports pack to me is useless, the RSN's are included in Xtra if I'm not mistaken.. I've never once watched another RSN other than my own. I think I'll look into this and see what I can for a discount. Been a while since i wheeled and dealed with them.

I actually DID call them and do this...Scaled down from Ultimate to Xtra with the 4 premium channel packages...I'm already getting HBO $7 off, but I think the next bill will be the last month for that promo. Perhaps they can offer some more discounts then. I have my "local" RSN's (I "live" in a NYC market zip) and don't need to have any of the others since it seems many of the content (besides the live sports) is blacked out anyway.

Currently subscribed to the Premier package,

BEFORE you switch anything, one question...are you a Premier sub that currently has a DVR & also has FREE DVR service grandfathered on your package now??? If you are, as soon as you switch from Premier, you'll loose that FREE grandfathered DVR service & will NEVER be able to get it back...& will then have to pay $10 f/DVR service...which will more than negate any savings by ONLY dumping sportspak, or any other single premium channel.

Nope not grandfathered, im a scrub who has to pay for it.. my only other question is does dtv allow you to pick and pay individual channels, i could actually live with choice package instead of Xtra IF i could add NHL network on its own

A couple of things to consider:

1. The Xtra package will only get you your local Rsn. The sports pack is required for anything else.

2. You are only saving yourself 7 or 8 bucks after it all pans out, if you opt into the sports pack.

The plus of the Sports Pack with MLB Extra Innings and NHL Center Ice ,you can watch the channels they originally broadcast from instead of the 700 series channels. It's nice to be able to watch post game if you want because it's not blacked out.

Personally if I were in that spot and when it all shook out the difference between the package I wanted with everything I wanted and the Premiere package was only 8 bucks, it would be a no brainer for me to take it all.

Yes i took, i debated for about 5 mins because I was wondering about my leverage being gone come football season for ticket discount.. she had 1st offered me $35 off instead of $45 plus the additional savings WITHOUT a contract but I bit on the extra $10 savings and will see about sunday ticket come September if I agree to another 2 years maybe I can snag a deal then
