Wow! D* Only charges $10/month for HD

The recent add-ons of D* havn't really bothered me, but the fact that they offer all of those HD channels for $10/month as opposed to $20 it starting to tick me off.

Hey Skyhi,

Do a search over at the Direct TV forum and you will find that it is NOT $10 at D*. There is or will be an extra cost for the HD channel package that contains channels that are not "mirrored" in SD.

So are you still "ticked off" if the difference may be $16 versus $20 ?

HD extra pack, for channels not mirrored in your package, its $5 and will start end of December I believe, its for hdnet, hdnet movies, Smithsonian channel hd, mgmhd, mhd, hd theater, etc, but unlike voom it is optional.

His numbers are off on both sides, Locals are included with DVR Advantage on E* as well.

I didn't include any DVR programming because that wasn't the issue, and if you see before I included any prices I told you the systems/programming I was comparing (no DVR programming anywhere on my post). I am not sure what the differences would be because I didn't include that on the website. If you would like to know, go on the website and find out. If my numbers are wrong, the websites are wrong!!!!

Yeah, the numbers play out differently by line item, but pretty much most people pay overall the same for either provider, maybe a little less for E*.

It's fine if E* is cheaper - I'm happy with my D* either way... just wanted to make sure it's a fair comparison.

Not sure what you were looking at, but locals are included at no extra cost with every D* package - even the family pack at $29.99. There is no extra $5 charge.

I just switched to D* and it's the best move for me. I used to be a loyal E* customer. Not anymore. So far my experience with D* is great.
And if I am paying an extra $8/month, it's worth it.

it seems that the programming runs pretty close, its all about your equip needs. with dish, if you have a dual tuner dvr, you only pay for one dvr service fee. if you have direct and you need two dvr's, then you pay two dvr service fees plus one extra rec fee. however, you will be able to record while watching on both tvs, but you wont be able to retrieve the same recorded show from etiher tv unless it was recorded on both tv's. what a consumer needs to do is figure out how he is going to be using the service in his home. me, i live bymyself, so a dual tuner dvr by e is great. it would be costly to get two sep dvrs in my situation. i know i went really off topic here, but the point i am trying to make is a consumer needs to find out what the cost of the equip and the cost of the programming plus any other fees that might apply, and add that to his programming charge to get a true picture of the price of d vs e. then the consumer can make a choice that fits his needs the best.

DirecTV is actually $3 cheaper if you have two HD receivers for two HDTVs, one of them being an HD DVR.

But I'm not ready to make the move because the disadvantages of DirecTV are buying the HD reciever for $100 and the HD DVR for $200. Also you would have to buy the Sports Pack for another $12 if you want some of the national sports channels Dish includes in AT250.

Tulsa already got you on the DVR fee, but other than that I agree with you. It's about what's best for YOU.

Locals are included in every DirecTV base package. There is no $5 charge.

Also AT200+HD doesn't include National Geographic, The Science Channel, or Golf/Versus. If you're going stricly for HD value you might as well drop down to AT100+HD since you only additionally lose Animal Planet.
