The numbers are a bit misleading but you will still be paying more than Dish for hd. According to the websites after all promotional discounts have ended:
Service with two tv's (one standard, one HD)
Dish AT200:

+$5.00 for locals
+20.00 for hd programming
______________

Directv Choice XTra HD
$54.98 per month

At the present time, some might be willing to pay the extra $8.00 to get all those extra channels, but when they come to Dish, we will still get more for less.
I know this isn't the war zone, but at least get the facts right... I don't pay a dime for my locals with D* and I get three of them in HD.
And what happens if you want two HD TV's?
Actually, I took the numbers straight off the website. I didn't include any DVR programming because that wasn't the issue, and if you see before I included any prices I told you the systems/programming I was comparing (no DVR programming anywhere on my post). I am not sure what the differences would be because I didn't include that on the website. If you would like to know, go on the website and find out. If my numbers are wrong, the websites are wrong!!!!
My point wasn't to show how much more D* charges but rather how comparable the pricing for similar packages are from both providers. And, for the most part, Dish charges less for their programming than D*.
With D* you only pay one DVR fee no matter how many DVR's you have. And programming (specially on HD) is not even close right now.
it seems that the programming runs pretty close, its all about your equip needs. with dish, if you have a dual tuner dvr, you only pay for one dvr service fee. if you have direct and you need two dvr's, then you pay two dvr service fees plus one extra rec fee. however, you will be able to record while watching on both tvs, but you wont be able to retrieve the same recorded show from etiher tv unless it was recorded on both tv's. what a consumer needs to do is figure out how he is going to be using the service in his home. me, i live bymyself, so a dual tuner dvr by e is great. it would be costly to get two sep dvrs in my situation. i know i went really off topic here, but the point i am trying to make is a consumer needs to find out what the cost of the equip and the cost of the programming plus any other fees that might apply, and add that to his programming charge to get a true picture of the price of d vs e. then the consumer can make a choice that fits his needs the best.
