Would Freeview work in the states?

I found out about some sort of FTA system called freeview in the UK...does anyone know if it would work in the USA? Seems to be mostly UK/USA content...

Freeview is a OTA COFDEM digital channels using a PAL video on UHF channels so that's means it will not work, since we use 8VSB system with ATSC HDTV and NTSC.

But the nice thing about that we don't have to pay for TV licences here in the good ole USA!
