To those of you who love to watch demolition derbies but don't know the intricacies of the sport, the event looks like chaos on a dirt field.
That also describes what Maria and Jeff James faced when they decided to form a league from the sport.
Demolition derbies were the centerpieces of county fairs, where, shall we say, the common folk loved to cheer for their next-door neighbor. It was the only place that honored those tank-like cars that you can't even find on used car lots run by owners dressed in plaid suits who yell at the TV a lot. And every event was different, with varied rules and biased judges and the same drivers everywhere, hated or loved as much as the professionals in NASCAR
The event will be nationally televised, although it will be shown on the VOOM cable network, on the World Wide Sports channel.
