I live in Port Ewen, NY. I get all the NYC Channels as my locals(Which are 102 miles away). But 4 miles away is 24 UHF in Kingston, NY which has WRGB(CBS) & WCWN(CW) on it. I was granted a waiver last week by my NYC CW to be able to get CW East channel(ch394). With the AM21 would I be able to get 24 UHF and get WCWN(CW), or would DirecTV not allow me to be able to get it? I checked TV Fool's Ove the air map and it shows me getting the channel in green.
With the AM21 which local channels would I get? Both?

So if my locals are NYC but I can get the Albany locals with the AM21 DirecTV won't block the channels out?
well sort of....
If you have the HR34 it can "scan" for stations but if you have a HR21-24 or a R22 it just loads from the database. Per a document from D* these are the Albany stations that are loaded in the maps and should load and have guide info

The HR34 will load any channel it can pick up
What about the HR24. I bought a tuner from DirecTV for $50. I'm in Port Ewen, NY and only want to get WRGB(which also has WCWN in it)(Ch 24 out of Kingston, NY) which is only 4 miles from me. TV Fool's website said I just need a in-door antenna to get that channel. So i'm going to get a $11 RCA Indoor Off-Air HDTV Antenna from Best Buy

probably wont work. Since the HR24 only loads the maps from the database it would load channel 6 from Albany which is on RF6. They transmit on channel 6. Since the translator station is on 24 that wont show up on the AM21.

The AM21 is "stupid" when it comes to loading channels. With a HR21-24 or R22 it will only load what is in the database and according to the list I have its the "actual" stations. Since for you its a translator station (and low powered) its not in there. It will load the channels in the database properly but when you select say 6-1 the AM21 is going to try and tune in legit channel 6, NOT 24 which is what you need
If you had a HR34 it would load it in properly via the "scan" but would show "regular schedule" in the guide

IT WORKS!!!!!! I get 45-1 WCWN So happy im beyond words!
Out of the channels I tried too far, only 45-1 WCWN works. 45-3 WCWN(which is the SD feed of WRGB) worked when used with my indoor antenna connected to my HDTV but with DirecTV HR-24 it just keeps searching. I am able to get 45-2 WCWN but its just a black screen
Maybe for Christmas I will get a outdoor antenna and try to pick up WPXN-1 because I would love to see Flashpoint in HD(or hope DirecTV gets a ION HD channel)

The reason the HDTV works and the AM21 probably doesnt goes back to the fact that the AM21 has preset info in it. The HDTV can scan for channels
45-1 (RF43) is CW
45-2 use to be Universal Sports which left on 1/1 and went to cable/satellite
45-3 must be a glitch.
Your market is really confusing with translator stations and cross promoting of networks so its hard to see what stations you're getting on the HDTV. The AM21 is loading it as RF43 so you're getting the actual WCWN station (From Schenectady)

My signal meters for both 45-1 & 45-3 keep going between 46%-50% but hardly any interuption on 45-1
