But as former MLB commissioner Fay Vincent said to me, “Somebody has to start being nice to the public down there.”

and yet only 10,500 in Seattle....hmmmmmmm
crappy dome + not in Tampa proper equals bad sales
I think the Marlins are going off tickets sold and not butts in the seats (or in the stadium)
20,000 there yesterday?
I think that's how everyone does their attendance numbers. It's not just the Marlins. Look at all the "sellouts" with big sections of empty seats. Everyone exaggerates their attendance.
It only makes sense to do it that way, if the tickets are indeed sold. Can't fault the team if people don't show....
It's not an exaggeration because EVERYONE goes by paid attendance. No one goes by turnstile any more.

That was my point. It's unfair to nitpick Miami's numbers when every team does the same thing. I didn't watch yesterday's game but I did pay attention to the crowd in the highlights. Their attendance number of 21,412 seemed pretty reasonable to me. I think maybe people are just overestimating the affect that bad ownership will have on the ticket sales. Yes, if they keep this up for years I'm sure the fan base will continue to decline but I expect this year's attendance to be right around the 1.5 million that the Rays put up last year.
I bet San Antonio would like a baseball team....
we will not get a major sport here in Vegas for awhile. baseball would be the worse to get,to many games NFL would be best first choice 10 games this would build paying sports fans any other sport would fail. we all have fav teams from where we came from.Las Vegas and Montreal are next in line...
