Will Dish let me keep my distant network package if locals are now available?

I currently have a 921 receiver with a Dish 500 antenna pointed at 100 and 119 degrees. My locals (Richmond VA) are on 129. I have distant networks from New York from many years ago (before individual waivers)..

I get HD locals OTA via the 921 with a new rooftop UHF antenna that gives me a 120-125 signal on the 921 but I get frequent dropouts whenever it rains or the wind blows. This totally screws up any reliable recording.

I have kept the SD distant networks from New York. I like that there are two satellite tuners to record multiple network shows and the program guide info.

Now I want to upgrade to a 622 receiver which will also get me a Dish 1000 antenna and the Richmond locals. Sure I could switch to Richmond locals but they are standard definition, and will stay that way (not in the proposed 50 local HD feeds). So I’m thinking of keeping the New York networks and not paying for the Richmond locals with the hope that someday I can waivers for the New York HD feed.

Will Dish let me keep my distant network package if locals are now available? I assume my program guide will still not show local program info with this arrangement.

Can I apply for HD waivers for New York?

To loudbmw: chances are if you don't bring up current channels. csr wouldn't even notice them. You should be grandfathered at this point, so may not be a concern. Your OTA settup bothers me though, how sturdy is that antenia. Digital signals are somewhat touchy and if you don't have a steadying post and guide wires on the antenia pole there is a tendency for the antenia to move enough to cause the interuptions. I had that same problem when I rehung my OTA and that really eliminated a lot of my problems.

Back a few years ago when locals became avaliable we were given the option to "opt out" which we did. Now I'm wondering if I can get HD distants if and when I upgrade to MP4. The last CSR I spoke with said yes. The nearest "local" is 100 miles from here!!

You will lose the NYC locals....Once the DMA you are in gets LIL thru satellite you'll be notified that they will switch you to your local DMA....
You will NOT be able to get waivers

I have a 508 with a 500 ant. and have had the east network package since '97. I called yesterday and ordered my 622 w/1000 ant. I asked about keeping my east network package several times (6), and the csr said that I would be able to keep it, and if they are broadcasting in HD I will get them in HD. I also asked her to make a note of our conversation on my acct. She did seem pretty knowledgeable about what is going on with the new recievers and programming. I informed her that when the 622 is installed and activated that if I don't have my package I will cancel the whole deal and they can take everything back to the shop. She said that it would be no problem to keep the services since I'm grandfathered in.

Guess we will see

My father was in the exact same boat. He had locals from back before the waiver thing, and Dish started offering local in local in his market. They sent him a letter that they would be discontinuing his ability to pick up distant networks (at least some of them, I think they let him keep some which is strange), and that for the ones he lost he would have to get his local affiliate off of satellite. Problem is that because of trees (his house is in a forest), he can only point to the main satellite (110 or 119, I forget which), and his locals are on the other satellite. So, Dish offers them, so he lost the channels even though there is no way for him to get the channels Dish offers. He had to get the cable basic package in addition to Dish to be able to have a way to get those local channels back. He can't go with cable completely because their picture quality is so horrible (most of the channels are analog and snowy, including the local he gets, but he figures that snowy is better than not having it at all.)
