Just as the topic says. Will a Starchoice model 410 receiver (it looks like the standard 4DTV models I've seen on ebay) pick up any of the channels that are listed as free on lyngsat? Unit has previously been authorized on Starchoice. I have both C and Ku Band dishes here, so if it is at all possible to "download channel maps" by pointing at a specific bird, I'm willing to give it a try. Has anybody tried it? The receiver does pick up the channels listed as free on Anik F1. I honestly haven't had the time to even try hooking it up to the C-Band. Has anybody else had any success with the Starchoice 410 in picking up free stuff from other birds?

I have a feeling as the software may be SC only it wont get anything else. But you can try :)
I thoguht only the 1st models of SC receivers could do both

Doesn't hurt to try :)
Otherwise you could try and manually tune stations with it. Find a satellite that has a 4DTV channel on it
option 6-7-7-8 intot he installer menu and there is an option for manul tuning.

This is a very old Starchoice receiver. It looks a lot like some 4DTV units I've seen on ebay. I'll give that option 6778 a try this weekend :)

Hi Iceberg. I found that menu 6778 option for manually setting the frequency. Any suggestions on what I should try? I have my dish pointed at Galaxy 14 @ 125 right now. I'd like to see if I can get the Music Choice channels, and according to lyngsat they are at 3895 for a freq. The unit won't let me put in that number. I'm assuming that it must be using some sort of offset number internally. Any ideas what I should try for a freq?

To answer my own question, I think I may have figured something out. 5150 (C-Band Freq) minus 3895 (frequency I want) = 1255. I punched that number into the receiver and now have a "SIGNAL" indicator turned on. I see that Provider Provider 279 is showing up now.. I'll keep playing :)

Those Music Choice channels arent for 4DTV

On Lyngsat if there is a 4DTV channel available, it will be in red by the audio pid.

If you can see 91W try there. There are 2 channel free on one of the TP's...Bloomberg & Access TV Network
3880
H
29270

so that would be 5150-3880=1270 IF frequency
(see attached screenshot for what I mean with the channel number)

Thanks Iceberg. I'll give it a try this evening. I've got my C-Band ribbon cable inside the house so I don't need to ghetto move my C-Band anymore :)

I'm able to manually tune in the frequencies, and the receiver is recognizing that it is connected to a Digicipher signal. The receiver is currently at software version CC and has a target rev of 114, but it isn't taking a download. Does the receiver need to be turned off or on to take the latest software updates? I realize that since this is a Starchoice receiver Model 400 according to the on screen info that I can find, although it looks identical to a 410. Any tricks to try trick this receiver into taking a non-Starchoice download?

From what I understand the Starchoice receiver will not receive the 4dtv's channel maps. You would probably have to flash the software somehow. Try parking it on G1-3 and unplug it and plug it back in and wait and see if that does anything. Or see if you can do a master reset on G1-3 and see what happens. Good Luck:)

OK, I've been able to tune into that transponder, but the diagnostics screen is saying that there is no EMM stream on it. I'm guessing that the Starchoice receiver has been customized to their provider number and it will ignore any other providers. I'm going to give it one more try overnight to see if I can get it to take a firmware update via the satellite, which maybe might allow it to see other providers. I don't plan on subscribing the unit, I just want to watch the stuff that they have in open key mode. If it doesn't work, then I'll throw it back in the closet for now. My new Fortec Receiver arrived today, so I've got Blind Scan again! Yippee! I sure missed it when my last receiver quit.
