Okay, I've had a couple Nyko Wiimote chargers for a couple years.

They are basically a PITA since the contacts are a pain to keep lined up to charge the batteries.

I'm pretty much set on replaceing them now, but there's plenty of types out there to choose from, so I'm looking for recommendations of which ones to get and which ones to avoid.

thanks,

I never bought into the wiimote charger nonsense. I found a good deal on some 2300mah batteries and charger. Always have a set ready to go for the XBox360 or Wii.

I just use rechargeable batteries, I have eight, four for my Wii and Four for my Xbox 360. They only take a hour to charge.

I was looking into those when we got the Wii, but I read many horror stories about how they melt the remotes.

I have a setup like the Nyko, but they're Energizer from Costco. One of the battery packs died the first week, just never bothered to take it back, the way they sit in the cradle it's no problem with getting things lined up, just plop it in and im set. Thing is so bright it acts like a night light in the living room to boot. I think the reason it works so easy is the controllers aren't quite as vertical in the charging center.

For 360... Play and Charge kits are priceless. What really needs removable batteries are the PS3 controllers. No trickle power to the USB cables so you have to charge them on another device or leave the PS3 on to charge your controllers (or if you didnt notice it was almost dead, sit 2 feet from the PS3 so you can play your game)... yeah, that makes sense. If you're Apple.

I hate the cable things on the 360. My boy does a good job at always keeping at least 4-6 AA's charged and ready to go. When the circle starts blinking on the 360 controller it's a quick swap.

The battery on that charge kit on the one controller already died after 6 months. I could care less since we just tossed the battery and switched over to double AA's for it.

I don't mind the wired controller on my 360. My GH Guitars are wireless, I just don't like having to push buttons to get recognized. That's why I like the wired ones.

My wired controller is on my computer 100% of the time, I've had my original play and charge kits since just after launch. A friend of mine had his pack die, and I think I am close to needing to replace my controllers, I am noticing problems with the analog sticks after almost 4 years.

In 2.5 years, I've never had to plug my PS3 controller in while playing. I guess if you only had one controller and played for like 6-8 hours without a break, it might be an issue... but it never has been for me.

They don't charge while it's off and they're plugged in, is the bigger problem. If you let it play movies all day on your day off while doing stuff around the house and don't plug it in then, they die np.

Edit: wife tends to do this more than I do, which leads to me reading that some demo is out I want to download... and I go to turn on the PS3 and nothin :p

I completely agree that they should charge while the console is off. Still boggles my mind, that one.....

There is an option now to set the controllers to automatically turn off after a certain period of inactivity, though - that might help the situation you're having.

By the way, I LOVE your avatar - has to be one of the dumbest moments in the history of sport.

Activision Blizzard may consider stopping PS3/PSP support

best tv for xbox 360? I think this one wins
