Why double HD

Ah good question..Sorry, I Really do not even pay attention to SD, unless a sports team of mine is being carried on it.. :):)

the Lower and higher numbers is what I meant.

the high number is the actual channel, the low number is a mapdown to get it where it should be in the guide. So really there is 1 channel, and a virtual channel number pointing to it.

i sometimes wonder about the "mapdown" though. I swear sometimes I think the high number one has a better PQ. Probably just all in my head though.

Dish channel numbering is a mess. Most HD channels have 3 numbers (not counting the SD version), lucky they only send the video stream once.

I went through all my receivers and locked out the SD version to at least have a nice set of low numbers with each channel appearing only once in HD.

I like the way Directv does their hd channels. When any new hd channel is added , it takes the place of the sd version in the lower channel numbers. This way there is no confusion for the subs. With DISH I have to lock out the sd version and the higher versions of the hd channels so the hd lower mapped channel is all I see in my guide. A lot of work if you ask me. DISH should allow you to use the menu to enable the lower mapped channel numbers like DIRECTV does and it would be much easier for everyone.

are there any HD programs in the 9000's (I think 9000) that aren't mapped down to lower numbers? I never thought of locking out the channels.

All the HD channels in the 9419-9599 range are duplicated in the lower range. However, there are some HD channels in the 360-399 range that are not in the 9000 range like MGM HD and Word Fishing Network.

See ya

Because when new channels come out they are easier to see? maybe? I wish they would actually get all the channels grouped by catagory alot better and leave room for additions in each group (other then shopping). That would make life even easier. (hard at first but then real easy.

List maintenance isn't particularly easy (there needs to be more than the channel ID), but it doesn't deny you channels like locking them does.

Given the screams of bloody murder when channels get automatically added to some users lists, I'm not sure that's the way to go.

Having the HD channels at two locations makes it easy to record back to back recordins and have them use two tuners with default padding.

Hendrix the issue with recording back to back shows on the same channel is that the DVR will use onl one tuner so when the first show goes over you have to watch the end by starting to watch the second. If yo use the two diferent channel numbers each show has its own tuner with padding so you can the complee show without the brief pause while you start the next on so you can see the end of the first..
