Why doesn't Dish carry major networks CW and MyNetworkTV when they are subchannels?

They are major networks, or at least CW is. And I know CW is not part of the Big Four, but it's still a major network. And to some lesser extent, MyNetworkTV is too. Before I "moved" to the Twin Cities, Rochester, MN didn't carry either when I wasn't with Dish because the networks are on subchannels. But, my understanding is that if one of the Big Four is on a subchannel, they will carry that. I can understand networks like MeTV or THIS, but why these? They only carry it if it's on a primary.

In most cases, even if a local isn't a sub channel, we have to reach an agreement and contract with the local network before we can provide it. If you can provide your zip code, and the call letters for that channel, I can forward a request for the CW network in your area.

I'd love to just have the big 4. No ABC or FOX available in my DMA. Off air reception is spotty for me, even with a medium yagi and preamp.

Tommy, can you put in a request for ABC and FOX in the Springfield MA DMA? I know there's been a dispute with Gormally broadcasting for several years, but they recently sold to LIN which already owns the local NBC network (that DISH does carry). Doubt it will happen but it would be very nice to have FOX before the upcoming NFL season. Thanks.

KTTC 10.2 for CW, and KIMT 3.2 for MyNetworkTV. My zip code is 55901.

The OP doesn't say what receiver he has. If he has a receiver that requires an ota module and doesn't have one, he may not be able to watch those channels.

Pretty sure that the OPs question is "why aren't these carried on the satellites" - nothing to do with OTA. His question is more about the must carry/negotiations/etc. having to do with why these don't come as part of the local channels carried by dish on the satellites. I won't answer since I don't know....

Our Cw station is a sub channel 6.2 of the CBS station 6.1 KFDM. We don't get it carried on the satellite in Beaumont,Pt.Arthur ,Texas dma either, but we do get ota guide data at least. Now if we could get the hopper software to be fixed so we could use the name based recording features for our sub channels we would be all set.

I think it depends on market my CW channel is blasted in off a bird and its right below the local fox 23 channel on channel 19.

Our local Fox station also owns the CW and MYTV channels and has set up each on a primary channel, they broadcast on about 5 or 6 different RF channels, at least 3 of them are LD.

Oh, I don't have Dish anymore (with DirecTV now); just curious and something to consider if I ever come back.

But, our CW19, KQCW, is a primary OTA network, it is not a subchannel except to Coffeyville where Griffin provides a subchannel feed on KOTV 6.2 for the Tulsa DMA viewers along the Kansas border where KQCW signal doesn't reach. The OP is talking about CW and MyNets that are subchannels of primary network affiliates, like in the Ada/Sherman market where abc,cw,fox and mynet are all subchannels of the primary affiliates KTEN (NBC) and KXII (CBS).

Still it just comes down to contracts and negotiations with the Affiliate owners as to whether Dish will carry those subchannel feeds. I believe they do carry the CW subchannel feed in Ada along with the ABC and Fox subchannel feeds, not really sure anymore.

God I hate KTEN I have racked up hundreds more like thousands of miles worth of drive time for rolling out on service calls about customers complaining about KTEN HD going down and you get that switching to sd equivalent screen and I get to the customers location to discover there nothing is wrong with the system and signal levels are fine.

I've heard that, I used my lake house address in Wagoner for our 2nd account when my mom still lived at our ranch in Pontotoc, she preferred Tulsa locals. Just used the antenna for kten and kxii if she wanted local weather updates.
