Who Dey????????

NFL HD had a excellent recap of SuperBowl XL on lastnight. I'm glad I watched it, hell the wife even watched it. :)

It really highlighted the Steelers but in the process showed just how many opportunities the Hawks missed.

Living in Baltimore, I'm surrounded by Ravens fans (aka Steelers haters). I'm tired of hearing about the refs and the bad calls. I'm shocked at what Holmgren said. The refs did not cost the Seahawks the game. As Brian pointed out, the Seahawks had numerous opportunities to make plays, but failed.

Of all the calls being mentioned. The offensive pass interference, and the holding call when the Seahawks had the ball on the one yard line cost the team "potential" points.

Let's give them the four points for the offensive pass interference. Now the score is 7-7 at the half.

Now lets put the ball on the one yard line and say there was no holding penalty. Should we assume that the Seahawks would have scored a touchdown from the one yard line? The Steelers defense could have stopped them on the one yard line and forced a field goal. That defense has done that a lot this year. There could have been a fumble (it happend to Jerome Bettis, and it can happen to Alexander) or perhaps a few penalties that would have moved the ball back a few yards. So lets give them a minimum of 3 points or a maximum of 7. That makes the score 14-17 or 14-21.

Forget about the penalty on Hasselback. If the holding penalty is not called, then the Seahawks have the ball on the one yard line and may get either 3 points or 7 points and be kicking off to the Steelers. At this point, it looks on paper like the Seahawks have this game under control, but should we assume that the Steelers won't get a good return on the kickoff and still use the trick play and score a touchdown later in the game (making the score 21-17 or 21-21)?

Also remember that, since the Steelers had an 11 point lead and Seattle needed two scores, the Steelers turned to the run game to take time off the clock. If the Steelers were behind, they would not have done this.

So here is my point, you can't blame the officials for a loss. The entire game would have been played differently by both teams if the penalties were not called. Seattle had numerous chances to overcome those penalties and they failed.

Draft day will be here soon!
