Speaking for the Detroit Tigers -

Miguel Cabrera 1B, Brandon Inge 3B, he's having a phenomenal season.
Pitchers Justin Verlander and Edwin Jackson deserve the nod also. Jackson was robbed of at least 3 wins this season by the bullpen. Verlander is throwing as well as anybody in MLB right now.

What about your teams? Who and why.

Victor Martinez

While just about everyone else has been injured this year, V-Mart has been the one healthy one (knock on wood).

He plays arguably the most important position on the field (catcher) and was batting near .400 for a good chunk of the season. Vic leads the team in RBI (53), Runs (49) and OPS (.934).

It's a shame however that Victor is 5th among AL Catchers in the voting. :(

The other obvious choice would have to be the reigning Cy Younger, Cliff Lee. He's lowered his ERA to 2.94 since the first two games where he ballooned to a 12.60 ERA. Take away the first two starts and Cliffy's just as good as he was last year, without the run support.

The Dodgers don't have anyone that really stands out as performing the best at a position. In fact many of their players are having some of their worst years ever (Loney by power and average, Fucal, Martin, Ethier by average).

There are a few that are performing well and should be considered as a backup:

Hudson
Blake
Kemp

Pitchers:

Billingsley
Broxton

I would say Josh Johnson and Hanley Ramirez. Josh is probably the best pitcher in ALL of the National League. And what can you say about Hanley....one of these days, he will get his glove work in order....IF he ever does, he will be considered the best player ALL AROUND in baseball.

For the Angels, mine is Big Daddy Vlady just because yesterday he cut those damned ugly dreds he's been carrying around for ages. The man looks great...10 years younger!!!!:up

I always liked Vlady. An old school type player who doesn't wear batting gloves, uses a ton of pine tar and jacks his pant legs up near his knees.

He reminds me of a Dominican Jim Thome.

What about that x-Dodger outfielder of yours, Cody Ross? I know his average is low, but the guy has been clutch and has been getting the big hits when they count.

And swings at every single thing anywhere within his bats reach. During his prime he used to hit HRs off of pitches in the dirt and over his head. The Giants Pablo Sandoval reminds me of Vlad.

All kidding aside, the only Angels player I would actually say belongs in the All-Star Game is Torii Hunter. It has not been an All-Star packed 1st half for the Halos this season.

As a biased fan I could throw in an additional name or two but it would not be correct.

I voted for Tori on my ballot. Much deserved with the season he's having. :up

I watched him pitch the other night. DAYMN! That's a big slab of beef on the mound! What is he? 6'5" and 250# or something like that? And all in proportion, too. I wouldn't wanna face him.:shocked

And don't forget...for whatever reason Dodger fans are not known for stuffing the All-Star ballot boxes historically. That always amazed me.

That is amazing. Don't they average over 3M in attendance?

Red Sox

Lock: Jason Bay

Hopefuls: Josh Beckett, Kevin Youkilis, Tim Wakefield and Jonathan Papelbon.

I'd be happy to get four of the above in, and obviously thrilled to get all five.

Wakefield is the one I'm really rooting for to get selected.

He has been hitting like crazy....he raised his average almost 60 points up to .272 in less than 2 months! That little guys has this natural power hitters swing. I like him and he is a fan favorite down here.

But I think there is a few guys more deserving....

US Soccer needs a miracle to advance....and gets it!(FINAL GAME SPOILERS)
