I recently purchased a stand for my LCD tv that houses all of my other components, including my 722. Afer watching the Lord of the Rings movies this weekend & having my surrond receiver on, the 722 was pretty warm. I would like to install a small fan to prevent overheating of the 722 & my surrond receiver. Should I try the USB type or the type that I can plug into my electrical outlet? I really don't want one that runs all of the time. It must be quiet. Ideally, it would only run when my surrond receiver is on. That seems to be when the 722 is overly "warm". Also, which direction should the fan blow.....or should it be an exhaust?

Here you go. All the info that you need is in this thread. http://www.satelliteguys.us/dish-network-forum/59186-average-622-temperature-thread-yours-hot.html

Here is one the favorite fans for cooling. http://cgi.ebay.com/Dish-VIP-622-722-Dual-fan-Cooling-System_W0QQitemZ260322377275QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item260322377275&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1234|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318

Has anyone actually tried these fans? How well do they work?

If I chose the USB type of fan, would I still be able to add an external hard drive?

Read the last 3 or 4 pages of the thread that I linked for you. Both of these fans work very well. You can pick up an AC power adapter for USB very cheaply.

I use a powered 4 port USB hub off the back of my 622 - three EHDs and the Thermaltake Mobile variable speed fan. It works fine.

I have 3- 2 for ViP722 STBs and one for a BD player. Antec laptop cooler. It has a pass thru USB power cord. I plug it into the ViP722, and an EHD into that plug, and everything works just fine.

Something odd happening with posting links. But you can search Amazon for "antec laptop cooler" and come up with pricing, etc.
