Which Reciever

I am getting a new HD reciever and want to know what people recommend more the Samsung TS360 or another reciever? I would love to get the HDTV DVR but i think I will wait for that price to be driven down more...

With walmarts huge HDTV displays they just rolled out I figure alot of high dollar HDTV stuff will be practically given away if not literally given away by the end of the year. (gotta love technology)

I thought the HTL-HD was pretty good but it failed after less than 60 days. Directv sent me the Samsung instead. If I had my druthers, it would be the Hughes HTL-HD instead of the Samsung. If you have a failure, directv will ship you the reciever of THEIR choice, NOT yours.

I second the nomination for the HTL-HD, mine has been trouble free since day I got one. I would tell you to stay the heck away from a TS-160 and the E86.

well the new ts360 is in stores redesigned for the same price as the original $299.. So i figured they prolly upgraded some stuff and addressed the speed issues on the menu.

I would also recommend the HTL-HD receiver. I've had it about 3 weeks now. No problems whatsoever and it gets all my OTA HD channels in well with my non amplified Winegard Sensar II.

So whats wrong with the TS360 compared to the HTL-HD?

No lighted remote control on the Samsung

No signal strength button on the Samsung remote

Graphics look better on the HTL-HD. Whomever designed the graphics for the Samsung must have been drunk or smoking something.

Surf Guide on the HTL-HD

CC button on HTL-HD easily accessable, the one on Samsung, you got to slide down a cover to get to it. Also other buttons you have to slide down the cover.

Screen Format button on the Samsung is about the only thing it has that I like.

None of the inputs that you can switch to will pass closed captions. In my case, this one thing alone makes the Samsung a bunch of dung. I didn't buy the Samsung and I don't like it that Directv took my HTL-HD with bells and whistles and replaced it with this outfit.

I have heard way too many problems with the Samsung model. I specifically asked Directv for the HTL-HD and that's what they gave me.

Well I got the HTL HD.. As I have posted in other topics my install date is the 31st.. so hopefully all goes well. I have read alot of people need the new software on the HTLHD will I need this and is there a way I can get it before my install date (does it download over phone or satellite?)

Is there a signal strength meter for the OTA channels on the HTLHD?

Yes for the Digital OTA, No for the Analog OTA

I can't find it anywhere, mine prolly needs a firmware upgrade and I just bought the thing from best buy...

It prolly downloads over the satellite and its not hooked up to the satellite yet.

It is under the last menu "Test ATSC signal" If you don't need a numeric value you can press the "pause" button on the remote and that will pop one up to, works for SAT and OTA.
