Which is the best (and cheapest!) VCR-DVD Recorder?

I want to convert a crapload of VHS movies of the kids to DVD. I have seen some of these units in the stores, and am wondering how good of a job they do. I know the picture quality will only be as good as the tape, (and some of the tapes are getting old!)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
